So I recently stumbled what I consider to be a hidden gem in the current Spring 2017 anime season, although the show is from China and not Japan. It's called 'Quan Zhi Gao Shou' or 'The King's Avatar'.
The King's Avatar is based on a webnovel written by Butterfly Blue. It follows the popular anime trend of the MMO genre made popular by the likes of Sword Art Online and Log Horizon, but it's about a traditional keyboard-and-mouse more closer to the likes of WOW or Mabinogi.
The show also takes more of a eSports theme, which is a popular scene in China. The story follows one of the top players of an MMO called Glory who had his account taken away from his manager and was forced to retire from the competitive scene of the game. He then decides to create a new account and start from scratch.
One thing I like about this show is that it goes into the game mechanics and the inner politics between the major guilds within the game. Not too unsimilar to Log Horizon. The main character is OP like Kirito, but it's because he knows the game's mechanics very well and how to exploit them and not because he has 'good reflexes' or some unexplained crap. This effects how he strategizes when fighting bosses with underleveled parties and even his character build.
I think it's an interesting show, it's animation ranges at times but it's artwork is great. CG is overused sometimes, but is understandable if this show has a much lower budget than a Japanese anime.
You can find episodes on the official youtube channel with english subtitles or read the web novel at webnovel.com.
