Hey you beautiful people!

It first started as a 2016 new years resolution to do something with my spare time but the more I play with the concept the more I realise this could be a serious thing and I could turn this into a reality. 

My goal is to make a 30-60 Hour RPG in 1 year which fans of the original Final Fantasy series could relate to, a top down, turn based Spite fun-fest. 

Im using the new software RPG Maker MV which I am finding extremely good and am working of custom scripts and plugins to make my game different from all the rest. 

(An honourable mention to Yanfly for his amazing work on the RPG Maker community so far and I shall be using some of his plugins) 

Story 
You play as a Princess in the land of Sai, however you do not wish to be a princess and practice your chosen art in your spare time, things unfold and your fathers kingdom is taken over and you manage to escape, you primary goal for your first story arc is to take your fathers castle back and rescue your family. 

Key features 
Class change system on the fly 
10 basic playable classes and 20 advanced classes


Subclass system 
Skill point learning system
8 playable characters 
Optional dungeons with Normal, Hard & Extreme dungeon difficulties with Legendary gear rewards
Planned release on Steam, iOS and Andoid 
Demo planned for July

Whoa, 30 to 60 hours in a year? That sounds ambitious! Either you have tons of experience already or you have a dedicated team. Anyway, I wish you luck :)

Some big goals you have for a rather short amount of time :) Good luck with that! Putting that part aside, the plans you have laid out here sound good. I look forward to seeing how things evolve.

Thanks for the comments guys, I have been working with RPG maker on and off for around 8 years but I do think you are right in terms of time

Making the game itself isn't so much of a big deal, its making the resources for it

Day 21


Hey you lovely people, its been 21 days since I set off on the journey of self discovery and its about time I post some details here about my progress and some of the things I'm currently working towards!



Please bare in mind this this is still very much at the concept stage and not a huge amount has been put into practice


Basics:
Engine: RPG Maker MV.
Language: Javascript 
Name: The light of Sai 
Time limit: 1 year
Music by: Fifth Quarter (5sio2)
Story by: myself
Artist: still looking


New game mechanic scripts working properly:
Class swapping system
Class point system
Purchasing skills with class points
Item upgrade slot system
Multi-class/Subclass system


Game mechanics I'm currently working on:
Crafting system
Multiple Currency
Boss battle mode
Random dungeon mode


Current progress:
8/8 main characters made
0/30 Classes made
24/300 Skills and magic made
1/20 soundtracks made
0 maps made
0 cutscenes made


(if you've got this far, thanks for reading)
I made a short tech demo to test the above working game mechanics and to test HD resolutions on PC, iOS and Android and the games only screenshot is attached.


I know its not much to go on but any feedback would be great at this point, I hope to make one of these updates once a month, with the first gameplay demo showing off 3 classes coming in the next few months.

with 3-6 bonus islands for end game content only accessible through airship or boat

Just thinking not only overworld but also location maps like towns and rooms That takes a good deal of work.

Oh I'm well aware of the work that needs to go into this, but I'm determined to finish the System items and spells before I even start making the game


Within the 3 continents there will be around 10 towns, 3 cities and a total or around 40 dungeons which various puzzles and gimmicks.


I'm treating this how I would want a game I pay for to be, I'm talking great story and quality that on par of the first 3 Final Fantasy games.


I know it will be a lot of work but I hope everyone has faith and by July I hope to have the first hour of Gameplay and story ready as a downloadable demo

Sorry if I seemed doubtful. That was not my intention. :) I read my previous reply again and it was not quite how I wished it to come across..


The numbers was more in the line what I was looking for. I believe you and anyone working with you can pull this off with focus and a lot of daily work. It is a challenge but is is possible ;) Good luck with the work!

Whoa... this is a tough goal to reach. I managed less than 10 hours in a year myself with my latest project. I wish you luck completing the game! :)

An update on the scale as previously asked about, just done a very rough mock up of the world map and its contents (you can zoom in a get a better look)


So far we have


8 Cities


9 towns


11 Dungeons (one of which leads to a dungeon hub which connects to others of various difficulty)


& 3 world bosses

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
