I think My game is out of the Early stages now and can be moved to Project Development

I'll try update this thread once a month

Just to get everyone up to speed

About: The light of Sai started off as a new years resolution which turned into something serious, I've received a lot of feedback from friends and the facebook indie community so I decided to take this all the way, even though I call it a "1 year project" its probably going to take much longer and I've accepted that, but I'm working hard and have good people behind me backing me up.

Story: The light of Sai follows a Princess that really doesn't want to be a Princess, every night she sneaks out and hunts in the forest for some excitement but her bodyguard always tags along in case she gets in over her head. The first story arc revolves around another country declaring war on her family's castle and land and the castle is taken siege one a night when the Princess is out of the castle and she must do everything she can to take the castle back and rescue her mother and father.

First Big update since creation


I cant believe its been 7 months, I know it doesnt look like a huge amount to show off but I only get 1-2 days a week to work on my project


My goal is to have a Demo out by christmas, as you can see the Database is 66% complete which I'm very excited about, its what I've been spending all of my time on as well as writing lore and story on my lunch breaks at work, its going to be such a long road ahead but if any of you veterans have any words of wisdom or if anyone has any comments on my work so far, I would love to hear them :)

I'm interested to play this game as well, it looks neat. 


I can see you used the generator faces for MV as a base but remade the portraits entirely from there, the new art style is very nice.

Update: Added the 3rd character for the game and my personal favourite!


Also in terms of future updates, I now have a tile set artist on board and map creation will begin in 1 months time! :D

Did you generate faces then color over them? That's a good idea. Makes them look less. . . ugly and awkward (even if the MV generator is leaps and bounds better than VX Aces). I really like your coloring.

They are actually drawn from the ground up with their likenesses taken from the generated characters to give them much more life :)

Its been a slow few months with the holidays around the corner and my tileset artist quitting on me, it set in a bit of depression which has sapped my motivation, but that to some help from my character artist I've managed to produce 2 more characters to add to the Roster


Alexander and Lucius


When the 8 main characters are finished I'll move on to finishing the database of skills and items

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
