I generally hold my judgement about a story's quality after a few hours of play-time. I mean, take a good look at games such as some well-regarded games in the RM community, such as Star-Stealing Prince. SSP began with a damsel in distress and a psychic dream, which are kind of generic and somewhat over-used storytelling tropes, but the story really took off after the first few minutes. Basically, the background lore shows a lot of potential that MC can go story-wise even if the beginning was kind of a F5 cliché hurricane.

Honestly, I agree with you both. And sometimes when I pick up any game in general, there's always some eye/mind stabbing cliché that sticks out and discourages me at some point. That being said...

I like some clichés.

Some of my favorite stories are nothing but cliché.

That's not really what I'm going for, but when I was first making the storyline things started out this way and a lot of it became core to the game. Much like ArchaicSpoon said, it may take a little while for my story to really shine making it more enjoyable as you get to know the characters and lore.

I really enjoy seeing both parts of this discussion though. That's the point of this forum! So thank you both.

I'm usually very harsh with clichès but, they can still work as long as they're well used, and from what I've seen this game uses them very well. So there's really nothing to worry about.

You're welcome. As you have said it's not entirely possible to judge the quality of a story just by taking a glance at the characters in the first few minutes of the game. It's kind of the same thing in my game too, as the story there will technically pick up only around 40 minutes into the game itself after the first dungeon.

Hello my friends!

It's been a little while since our last update and while this isn't exactly an update on game progress I thought I'd update you on why there's been a lack of updates recently.

My fiancée has delivered our Son! OMG the thing i though would possibly never happen has happened. I'm a dad! It's been crazy busy and honestly real life priorities have replaced those of game creation. Not to say i don't plan to continue development... Because i will. I love this project and all of you too much to let that happen! But if they are slow coming, you now know why.

Aside from that i plan for the next major update to have new facesets! These are time consuming to make since I pretty much do them all! I'm not the best artist but this is really good practice for me!

The new demo should also feature a return to some areas that I left out in the most recent demo and a couple of new ones!

I want to make a special thanks to DeathSpark for playing my game and posting them to his forum! You can find those in the lets play hub on this very forum site.

That's all for now! I thank all of you for your continued support for my project and I can only pray that you have or will be as blessed as I have in your lives. Having your own child is life changing and so awesome! Now i have two babies... This game and of course my best creation, my son. BTW his name is Jaron!

That world map is looking quite sexy! I also like the use of RTP in your title screen. Clever work boys.

Thank you sir! The title screen is a placeholder but I do appreciate the kind words! Photoshop is a friend of mine.

I hope to have an original title screen sometime soon. I need a decently powered laptop now that I have a kid... I rarely get to sit at my PC to work on my game!

EDIT:

And to those who haven't seen them yet. I added some of the Facesets I was working on to the "Characters" section on the OP.

Hello friends!

Since my recent purchase of a laptop I've finally had some time to work on the game some.

Between eventing and quest building there hasn't been a ton of progress, but for me any is better than none.

Oh and here's a lil something for a little forest area I'm working on too.

I hope to have an updated demo in the coming month :)

Looks pretty nice!  I'd try clumping a few of the flowers together to make a complete bed rather than spreading them out entirely, if you have the time for some edits.  I hope your new addition to the family is well.

Looks fantastic.  230+ layers, you are giving that poor laptop a work out.  The gradual color change between the walked path and the un-walked grass was a nice touch.

thanks. He can handle it though. The i7 processor and amd graphics chip shrugs off them layers. But I did actually consolidated the layers into about 5 or 6... Still working on it. Appreciate your kind words as always!

I agree, it looks great! Maybe vary the cliffs a bit, but it doesn't really matter much

@Adiktuzmiko: Thanks a lot. Most of those layers are pasting a single flower a ton of times. Lol then I merge the layers into groups when I have things set the way I like it.

@Dalph: I hate to disappoint but.... it may be a little longer for the time in which you'll play that area in the game... MAYBE the next demo after this coming one :p I hope.

@Seita: Good to hear from ya! Thanks!  I may add a bit more detail to the cliffs. ;)
