Hey there,

I decided to try the Magi Chronicles because it appears to be quite popular and i am busy procrastinating lol. only did a quick playthrough of the demo, but here's some feedback: :)

Liked:

* I don't recall any particularly fancy tiles but your towns and dungeons just come together really well and the lighting effects look great! I particularly like the shadows in the forest.

* I enjoyed being able to run around/away from monsters, heh.

* Battles felt like they were the good difficulty.

* Synthesis system: I wish i needed to use it more, for buffs, or for a quest, or something.

Disliked:

* Burning enemies effect. The effect itself looks fine, but in battle, it's not always immediately clear who you're targetting.

* I'd like to be able to walk a little faster on the world map.

* I feel like the writing (narrative) could use improvement. I realize the character's backstories might be revealed later, but if If you could flesh out the character's personalities earlier on, i think it'd really help. As is, i didn't find your characters particularly likeable, except Corra but only because he is so very useful in battle. I apologize if that comes off as rude (シ_ _)シ.

Issues:

I didn't encounter any errors.

* In the message boxes, letters like y and g get cut off at the bottom.

* In 2 or 3 cases, the message boxes don't conform with the others. One of the sarcophaguses in f2 gave a normal box instead of the black one. I didn't take note of the others.

* Floating scorpions: http://i60.tinypic.com/10ihth0.jpg

* Typo in Mark Target: Target is Marked increasomg physical damage taken.

Great feedback! Thanks for the play through.

I've actually considered changing some of the status effects. There are some issues that occur with them. It's a mater of seeing what works best visually, because like you said, it can get in the way.

Not sure if I'll actually change the speed on the world map though you do bring up a good point. There may be others that feel the same so maybe I'll have another poll to decide this.

I have to agree with you. Our characters do need more depth. It's a very fine balance I suppose because we don't want to bore people with too much story line but at the same time make our characters interesting and dynamic enough to keep your attention. I would never take offense from honest feedback. I appreciate your honesty. With time we hope to touch on this a lot more. ;)

Thanks for reporting the bugs! We will make sure these issues are addressed for the next demo.

Thanks again for playing!

Since theadellie pointed out that most of our characters don't seem to have any real back story, we decided to add more to all the major and some of the minor characters. We that most of this can be done via dialogue. So starting from the beginning of the game we have been adding talking options for many of the characters. We hope this will reveal more of the history of our characters and add more deepth to their personalities with out being too intrusive. We didnt really like the idea of just having a big Bio of each character for people to read but if ya'll have any other ideas let us know and we'll see what we can do. If people dont care that much about the extra dialogue they dont have to go through them but they are there for the people that are interested. I really like this idea and have been adding talk options to the standard dialogue thoughout the game. When we have added alot of these places we intend to we will be releasing a new version of the game that has all this included. Unfortunately you will have to start a new play through of the game to get all of it, But we think all the new info will be worth it. When playing through the game, if you see any characters you would like us to expand upon let us know and we'll see if it fits in with what we are wanting to do. Again thanks for all the support and keep the feed back coming!

Sorry if i worded it awkwardly. I originally meant to say 'you can save backstories, but until then, bring out more of their personalities in the existing dialogue'. For example:

Ms Grey calls Daryl a delinquent at one point, like she doesn't want him in the classroom because he'd cause trouble. I expected a little trouble or sass from him during my playthrough but it never surfaced. So what exactly makes Ms Grey think about him that way?

* Is he Lazy? He gets to school late, but it also seemed like he was pretty worried about it.

     (I need to get to school -> Some guy: Hey kid, shouldn't you be getting to class?)

* Is he Rebellious/Cheeky? He seems pretty compliant and doesn't ask many questions.

     (Just my luck ... Ok. -> Are you seriously sending me off? ... Right, what kind of mission is this even?)

* Is he Mischievous? He doesn't do anything out of order.

     (I probably shouldn't go through dad's stuff -> I shouldn't touch other people's stuff ...probably. :troll:  )

* Was he previously an offender? Everyone seems to trust him just fine.

* Or is he not a delinquent at all, and is just a reluctant guy?  I got that impression. @-@;
Also, there are some redundancies: http://oi58.tinypic.com/2medc3q.jpg

but anyway, a talk option sounds sweet, and i voted in the poll. :)

Ah! Well the talk option will definitely help flesh things out! We have already had a good time going back and adding these opportunities in. Once we have enough I think I'll update the demo so we can get some feedback on it.

Ms Grey called him a delinquent jokingly really, but Daryl is a bit of a cocky kid because he knows he is good/better than his classmates, so he doesn't really worry too much about getting to class on time other than knowing there are consequences to being late.

We are going back through the current dialogue though to show these characteristics.
Thanks for voting! :D

Just bumping this!

Still needing some more votes on the Poll for our music! I know everyone has been busy with the contest and all but hopefully now that it's over more of you have some free time to do this! :D

Let us know which ones songs would like to use (hypothetically even) for your projects! Again, the winning Songs will be made available for FREE!

Anyway, just let you know we've been working on the additional dialogue for Character development. Saberwolfcdw has been brainstorming while I go insane working on Music (with some help from him with that as well)

If there is anything specifically as far as talking options, let us know and we will see if it fits what we are going for. Just send us your ideas through PM.

Thanks guys and gals!

Oh and btw I've got a revised version of Elendyne music! https://soundcloud.com/jacob-mann/the-magi-chronicles-elendyne

Hi, I was going to give your game a spin, but...

TheMagiChronicles(Alpha).zip is malicious, and Chrome has blocked it.

It's weird since usually I never get this message when downloading games from here. Could the file get infected somehow or something?

If its games from Rpg maker,Game Maker,Rempy or Unity(as ive used these more)

i dont worry about that,it in my case has always been a false flag(going off when its not supposed to)

with how often my nortin tells me these games are dangerous id never get to play them.

and for the question,of course its possible,thats what hackers are but,i find it extremely unlikely for someone to learn that much about it just to inject viruses into indie games

its takes alot fo effort and time to learn.

I know that it's really unlikely, but the thing is that I never get these messages and when I do they're usually correct.

Maybe the computer has some malware on it which infected the dropbox files?

I have protection software that runs daily on my machine. Chrome has given me false positives as well on other RPG maker games so it's most likely that. I zip the file to avoid that issue but even that doesn't always work... Silly chrome. Lol but it is the better browser. I had the same reaction as you though when I got that message the first time.

Edit: I used Chrome on 2 different computers and didn't receive the issue. Very odd that you get it. It's not showing infected by either Windows Security Essentials, Malware Bytes or Norton.

Ok I voted too, Corran is obviously my favourite character and my favourite themes between those ones are magi-port-town-revised and magi-boss-battle-3-revised (they are awesomely made).

I'm looking forward to play the next version guys, so I can make another huge post here...ahah

@drassay & Magi Chronicles themes: I had an opportunity to visit your Soundcloud site and listened to some of the Magi Chronicles compositions. Very nice work all around for the tracks I had a chance to listen to and personally I thought Beneath the Sand, Prologue and Dream Walk were exceptional. For an ambient menacing sound Eerie worked well too. Keep it up!

@VoxPopuli

Thanks! Prologue and Dream Walk are some of the very first songs I wrote for the game. I'm probably going to revise them because I have higher quality samples to use now. I'm super happy you like what you've heard of the soundtrack.

@Shayoko : unsure which Vampire game you are referring to on this site.  If it's mine then the forum link on this site is:

http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/29391-widows-of-the-vampyr-igmc-entry-download-available-video-trailer-just-added/

(Note: this is an early IGMC version with some inherent flaws due to rush-to-deadline pressures, new demo will be up soon / also this mini-game is just a lead-in to the true magnum opus which is announced at the end of this mini-game :) )

If you were not referring to my game, please disregard this post and apologies for the spam :p
