Okay here's the deal guys... the demo is here. Now there is some voice acting like promised... and we are ALL new to this Voice Acting thing.

That being said, WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK. I would not recommend using old saves since there were some changes made that may make them unusable.

Please keep in mind as we adjust the game for Voice Acting the volume may be all over the place right now, we know... we are working on it!

Right now, the plan is to only voice out the main story scenes.

Here is what we want to know:

Do you like the current voices?

How is the sound quality?

Do you even like the voice acting at all? Do you think we should keep it going?

New areas feedback. (Bugs and such)

Story Feedback:

Is the plot staying up to the standards of The Magi Chronicles that you know and love?

If you're new to the game, what do you think of the plot in general?

What characters would you like to see more development from?

Please let us know of all bugs, even ones you may have mentioned before, it can be hard to catch and fix them all.

Hey guys, so I updated the Demo again because it's become apparent that the game is practically unplayable because of the victory aftermath script has some kind of compatibility issue.

So, I've removed the script for now and updated the demo. this link still works and is on the OP. THANKS EVERYONE! And a special thanks to those who have started a stream play through! 

Hope to see some feedback soon! :D

Played it till the Catacombs but there's an annoying crash that stops me from continuing the game sadly, so I can't give full feedback yet.
 

The voice acting seems ok to me, passable, decent overall. I admit I'm not the right person to judge it since I'm not a native English, people like Chaos Avian, McTricky and Iron Croc can give you more in depth details about it. I liked a lot Daryl's and Corran voices though, the dubbers are very expressive in some parts of the dialogues and their tone fit the characters pretty well. I say to keep going with the voice acting, so far it's promising. I like how you changed Frina Forest too, looks a lot more detailed now with Celianna's stuff and you also removed the ATB in battles, I may be biased here because I always disliked it but I think it's the right thing to do. Kudos for adding custom skill animations in battle, basically nobody does that. I also noticed that you added the monsters wandering around the world map, good idea, this avoids the frustration about random battles and encourages exploration.
Here's that crash I was talking about:
Basically, this happens everytime I fight the skeletons or the zombies in the Catacombs.

The victory message appears two times and then the game suddenly crashes to the desktop.

 

Looking forward to continue it of course but right now I really can't, since the crash is pretty random and I'm forced to avoid basically all the battles there (which is a pain, since I can't even train my characters).

No pop up or error, it just closes, the game suddenly crashes without a message or anything. It's also pretty random from what I saw (sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't) but seems to happen only in the Catacombs so far.

Okay, so I think I fixed the issue *crosses fingers*

So I've been using Yami CTB Script for a while. but before I uploaded the demo I updated it to Yami's PCTB which is as for as I know completely different in the programming. so I tried F0mar's Yanfly ATB\CTB add-on system. and it has yet to crash on me. I tested it a good 8 or 9 times. I just need you kind people to verify this for me. And yes you should be able to use your old save. :D

Oh man! It's been a loooong time since I played this game. :D It's a strange experience to see it after all this time; some things seem so new, while others feel just the same as before. It's like meeting a child again after a couple of years, you recognize them, but you don't think you know them anymore!


I didn't have too much time, so I haven't finished the demo yet. Just about to unlock the door to the 2nd floor keep. :< Means I'm not even as far as I got before. But I did make some notes.


First, the title screen. It's really hard to read the options (New game, continue, exit) over top of the images and effects. I think you need to consider something to make them stand out a bit more. There's so many colours it's hard to suggest one that's going to pop without proper experimentation.


I really enjoyed the voice acting for the most part. Though there were a few things that felt a bit odd. The random voiced lines in the middle of unvoiced scenes is the biggest one. The classroom comes to mind for sure. I think if the whole scene isn't going to be voiced, then don't bother with the one or two lines suddenly voiced inbetween. it breaks consistency and such not. It wasn't like those lines had any more importance in the conversation than others. The other odd thing was the pancake girl being voiced. She's amusing, but she's not so amusing that she gets to be this strange random NPC with a voice. Again, it just felt like a break in consistency with less payoff than those should really be worth. Other than that, I really enjoyed it! Corran's voice is wonderful on the ears~ (Ms. Grey could stand to have her volume adjusted though. Actually, adjust the music's volume. It blares right overtop of her.)

Notes I made while playing (mostly punctuation mistakes or cut off lines. Though, there's solid notes on things in the synthesis tutorial:

Either: "Have a seat, Daryl. You're late." or "Have a seat. Daryl, you're late." or "Have a seat, Daryl; you're late." or I guess "Have a seat; Daryl, you're late."


"They came here to check if he had come to school but we have no records of him coming by."

Another strange error:


Daryl! Don't play with the dead bodies!! (most of the ones in this map you are able to do this with. I know it's not an easy thing to fix, but it's just STRANGE that I can stick my toes under their heads. Maybe make an invisible impassible tile there or something??)

I had hit the switch that said that they opened?? And they sure look opened. Both of them do this to me. Daryl, open your eyes!!

Like before, I still find that the sprite style has issues with the map style. In that Daryl is a giant compared to somethings. For the most part it's not too noticable, but then you'll see something and it jumps out at you like those little spiders did in the forest...





Daryl: "Do you think these pants will make my butt look big?"


Overall though, I still really enjoy this. It's interesting to see what's changed (where's my spider nuking fire spell of total annihilation!!?) and what hasn't. The writing is still solid and the characters enjoyable. I'll post more notes when I have time to play some more!!

Thanks! Corran (SaberwolfCDW) had a happy moment when I told him about that. 

As far as the little pancake girl, that was a bit of an experiment and should've been removed. But I failed. I should say the Voice acting in general was an experiment\showcase, because none of us have done it before. And I got some really good feedback from you about that! So, thank you! The inconsistencies are really just a lack of resources at the moment and I was actually going back to removing some of those before I posted the demo and clearly missed some! Thanks for catching them!

So, you noticed my mapping issues, eh? Challenge accepted! Realistically, I had planned to go back and remap some of the towns to better fit the tall sprites such as changing trees, buildings and the like, but haven't had the time...YET! Also, I use Mack's Loose Leaf character generator AND I frickin' stink at making dead\fallen sprites at the moment. So, those are still a work in progress. I am working on them though! No more town of small RTP characters being slain in the future! Just normal, matching ones. XD

I forgot about that silly synthesis tutorial. I need to redo it! 

Thanks again for your wonderful feedback. It's a pleasure having people return to play the game after a while! :D

Oh and Ignite is still there. I think you get it at level 5!

Gonna try out the new version... So you're using PCTB now? That was the last battle system I used before I made my own. XD


PS: Why was my script on a note file in the game folder? Not that it's a problem as it's a publicly released script anyway, just curious.

Slight correction. It's f0mar's ATB\CTB script that I am using. :) Yami's PCTB was unfortunately causing Yanfly's Victory Aftermath to crash.

Oh, lol you wanna know something, I've been telling myself for months to delete it LOL we use it ;) but I keep forgeting the txt file is there.

Yay for voice acting!

Found two more bugs drass (the crash I mentioned before is fixed though, so great work there):


Basically, when my characters attack, half of the small command window at the right of the screen is stuck there and doesn't disappear completely like it's supposed to do.
 
Tower of Venus. I have no idea about how this happened, there's no visible platform yet, I jumped from the right side and I was stuck there in the emptiness (I had to reload the game to be able to move around again).

The issue with the battle system is recent, it's from changing from the old one to f0mar's ATB\CTB. I'm not exactly sure how to fix it yet, but I've been doing some research. I'll post it under help if I need to. I wish I could code.... but that's for another time! And is now fixed! I was able to find the line needed for the script myself. I feel so accomplished!

The issues with Venus is because I forgot to event the fall if you forgot to flip the switch for that tile. Thanks for catching that! :D

PS: I'm so happy that crash is fixed tho! :D Thanks for continuing the game!

Hey, great game!

I have an issue with the overlay in most maps. After I went to the second city, an overlay appeared that hasn't disappeared since. It doesn't seem to belong anywhere and it gets in the way when I explore. I suck at computers, so I don't have a picture, but the overylay is a bunch of tree tops and roof tops that doesn't go away whether I'm indoors or outdoors or during cutsecenes. Any way to fix this?

Thanks for playing! It is probably due to me forgetting to remove the Overlay from the first town when you leave. I made that change not too long ago. I believe I have fixed the issue and will upload the fixed game tonight. I'll edit this post when it is ready.

To make the overlay go away after you get the new version, just go back to the first town and leave it again. That should get rid of the overlay for you.
