You can always put the heroes sprites in the center of the screen facing up, a bit above the battle window, using a sort of a visible frontal bs (like the one used by Indrah and Fomar in "In Search of Immortality") and make them face upwards as adiktuzmiko suggests.
You can accomplish that easily if you're using Yanfly Visual Battlers, I use the same thing too since there aren't a lot of sideview battlers around, and I don't really like the standard frontal one (without the characters showing).
Okay everyone I know it's been a while since the last demo release...
But it's here.... and it needs testing! =P
Using your old saves will work but it might cause some glitches so I recommend starting all over.... I know, I know... it's a pain but you'll get to experience what was changed that way.

Thanks for finding that! I'll fix that asap and repost the demo. I'm glad you like the changes so far! I knew I couldn't post a new demo without errors lol
First off I'd like to thank Archeia for playing our game on her live stream! It was awesome to see the game played from another persons perspective and it gave us a chance to reflect on some things about the game!
That being said we are polishing the battle system and encounter rates. We felt as if there may be too many monsters on the maps and are cutting a few and adjusting the balance accordingly.
There was some good points made by others about how we should do away with ATB since there really isn't a good reason for us to have it.... so we are currently testing a CTB system and we really like the changes thus far!
We hope to have a demo released with these changes and also with some updated content.
We've considered that the intro is a bit lengthy and wordy at that.... so we've cut it back and made it a bit more interesting.
- Switched all sprites to the Tall format
- Added effects to some areas
- There are now fewer mapped enemies and enemies give a little more EXP now
- Tweaked various graphics and maps.
And that's about all. I also shortened the Demo because I am not quite done with some of the later areas.
And here's a link (it's also available on the OP):
A lot of good things were happening and then WAMBAM
That's not a good thing.
It was on the fight with the Head Priest after he summoned the skeletons. Some skeletons were attacking and then the game crashed. : (
Anyway! A few things, because I was enjoying what I had seen so far. Biggest issue is the strange blend of sprite types and face sets. Everyone in Vinicia (or... the town's name was something like that) was a petite little midget compared to my main character. Why is green antagonist blasting hobbit town into dust? That seems awfully cruel.
Just a little thing, the font you are using the fancy little 'g' is cut off by the at the bottom. It's not a big deal, but it was wigging me out every time I saw it. haha
I liked the battle difficulty in this game. It was never too easy and never too hard! And it seemed to increase in difficulty well overtime. I admit that Mr. General got shafted into full-time healer for me, but I really don't mind that. (He was rather useless in terms of attacks anyway lol) Seemed like I was gaining levels and skills at a decent clip as well, which is always nice.
I liked a lot of the NPCs. But Pancake girl is the best character in the game! I thought--that was a cute touch! And having the old guy right near her say he wanted grandchildren. I laughed. Dude, watch this hyper little rocket run circles around you--are you sure you WANT that?
hmmhmm what else... Oh, right. Seems kinda pointless to say "stand in the circle to use synthesis or open your menu" like... what's the point of the circle one? No one's gonna do that if they can just use their menu. I thought about standing in the circle for all of .0001seconds and decided, no... it's less buttons to just hit X.
Speaking of hitting X, I forget where exactly other than early game, but someone tells you to press [x] to do something and the graphic you used to show the [x] is SO BIG compared to the text. It was like wooahhh whyyy That's so IN MY FACE. Like the [x] key is yelling at me PRESS X!!! PRESS ME NOW!!
I really liked the dungeon mapping you did. Okay, I can't crit like... the look of the map, but I liked the layout of the maps. They were refreshingly nonlinear and had wrong ways and treasure to find and they, the two I saw, were really handled well!!
Good job! It's a shame the game crashed on me, but I really should be going to bed now anyway. ( PS, main character is a cutie patoot <3 )
You're welcome! I did really enjoy what I had played so far, and I will be trying to play some more soon too.
I'll give the battle another play today at least for sure. Though, for reference, I tend to wail on the space bar button during battles in time to the music. I can't remember if I was doing that last night or not, but I do break a lot of things with that habit. I'll be sure to do it when I reply that battle just in case. Hurrah you found the bug!! <3 I'm glad.
I'm glad to hear that the mixmatched face sets and sprites are a temporary thing! I kinda hoped that that was the case.
A thing that by the time I went to bed last night, I forgot I was going to mention:
In the status menu it feel really pointless to have that little blurb about the character at the top of the screen and at the bottom of the screen as well?
This feels painfully redundant. I understand that this is likely a preset thing from the script you are using, but to a person unfamiliar to such things - they are just going to shake their heads for long hours and wonder why in three spots they need to be told this man is a Captain of Brathean.
Maybe you have plans to do more with the Biography part of this menu, but if not, then I suggest looking at having that tab of the menu removed or replaced with something more useful to your game's gameplay.
The other thing I forgot to mention was how much fun it is having a mage as my lead character. I was scared to use his spells at first out of fear I would run out of MP, but that ended up never being an issue for me and blasting everything in the face with fire and burning them was so enjoyable~~ Yes. MC is the best character~
My battles always looked like this:
And it was beautiful.
I hope I'm not coming off too harsh in any way! I really enjoyed your game a lot so far <3 Which is why I feel like saying the things that did bug me.
I look forward to playing more! And that's not a thing I can say about many games I've tried. : ) Keep up the good work!
Is something I would NEVER say. haha. If anything any kind of feedback, good or bad, helps the project.
But really, your words are very kind and sincere and I do appreciate it!
To be honest I haven't thought about the whole biography thing. But I am considering making more lengthy ones. The issue with that is I plan on touching on each characters history and back story during the game at different points. So I'm not sure what purpose the biography would have at that point unless it evolved as the game progressed.
Omg... That drawing. lol So cute! May I save it? I'd love to put it under a fan art section on the OP. You're quite the artist (**looking at your games too**).
Thanks again for the fantastic feedback! I hope the rest of the demo treats you well!
