Hi Community,

This recent project is my attempt to create something in the forms of edutainment. This game has the main purpose to show real-life applications of decimal numbers, posing a problem in-game that is solved through adoption of a decimal system in the fantasy kingdom.
I have completed the main story and maps of the game and would like your help to find bugs/incosistencies/loopholes or anything else that might come up a s a problem for the player.
This is an alpha release for testing, so there will be future improvements, such as:
  • Quest system (currently only one quest implemented in the beginning).
  • In-game tutorials for those not familiar with the genre.
  • Tilesets, animations, enemies, battlebacks. Most of them are placeholders atm.
  • Music and audio effects. (There is basically none right now).
  • HUD and virtual buttons for mobile deployment.
  • Credits page in the beginning of the game (currently it is in the end).
  • Brushing up on dialogues and cutscenes.
  • A nicer font and Window display.

  • Synopsis: Dad's bakery in the small town of Bell Valley faces a novel situation: 1 gold is the least amount of money in the kingdom and yet is too much for some products. Customers are unhappy to have to buy more goods to fill in for the 1 gold. You want to help him, but you are just a child. For now, what you do is go to school, which is been quite dull lately. There, one of your classmates is furious because his dad doesn't give him anymore change because all the family's gold goes to food - including all the bread they need to buy to fit 1 gold. However, the teacher might have a solution that includes learning more about numbers, breaking up gold coins, hunting animals, fighting criminals and talking to his Royal Highness, the King.

I give it a try tomorrow and see what I can come up with bugs/glitches, feedback, others =)

One side, it's explained nicely (played 10min for now), but the bad side on this game
so far is that you cannot save the game when it's ask, are you allow to save the game
at all?

I think why saving isn't possible because the www -> save folder is not presented,
will test tomorrow for that part, but nice job so far.

as a sidenote, can you make the amount of characters in the name input to 8? because
I couldn't type in "Jennifer" as name, because missing 2 letters of it.

but I play tomorrow again, maybe to beat the demo as well.
Looks good so far :)

Thanks for taking the time and for the feedback.

I kept the digits at six to prevent the names coming out of the screen in some messages. However, I can definitely change it and leave extra space in the message windows for that.

Now for the saving, I had left it on for whenever the player wished to save. I think I may have left it out when I was making the .exe file. I didn't want it to carry my own testing saves.

I'll work on those and post an update here!

Edit: Updated the .exe on the download link. It should be possible to save it now.

it need to have the "www" folder with "save" folder inside in order to save correctly,
because this issue is very known and not able to fix with virtue box.

add those will ensure that it will be saved.

the reason you cap it to six because some dialogue is understandable.
It's your game, and only a suggestion, but you have to respect the creator choices :)

I will update when I found something on feedback :)

EDIT:
Problem:
Teacher stays after posting a letter (not sure where to go next after)
after resting in the house, the teacher dissapear.

solution to the problem:
after posting, the teacher can say: well done, now go home, see you tomorrow at school.
(or around this line that fits)

also when the teacher explain after about decimals a bit, a word got cut off.

Game freeze after "Best Friend" joined the party to Millfarm

that's all for now,

the game is really nice explained further on the maths :)
cannot say what the freeze cause after your "best friend" joined.

I wasn't aware of that bug because I had only made Android deployments before.
I've found a plugin to fix that and implemented it.

Problem:
Teacher stays after posting a letter (not sure where to go next after)
after resting in the house, the teacher dissapear.

Solved it, thank you for the suggestion on teacher's new lines!

Game freeze after "Best Friend" joined the party to Millfarm
Solved it, it was a classic movement route set to "wait for completion".

I'll deploy it again over this week and update the link.

I wonder if it has been updated, so I can re-download and replay it and see if
I can continue where I was stuck last time :)

but also a suggestion on the math you gave in class and post-office part.

while it is probably a fixed set math, maybe add 2-3 more so it randomize it,
so the change is better that you wont get 2x the same math in more playthrough.
at least not exacly after x runs :)

Yes! The first quiz is fixed, but the rest are randomly generated the numbers go from 0 to 50. I designed that thinking about kids playing in class on different computers. They could not just copy each others answers. Although they have the same word problem, the numbers are very likely to be different!

I hope you have some time to play around. Let me know your feelings towards the music, font and window UI!

even if you can download the exp, best is to have the following structure to ensure saving:

Folder (name your folder to the game (no spaces)
- game.exe (the name of the game)
- folder "www" -> inside this folder, folder "save"

else you wont be able to save the game at all, and they need to manually create it.
but I will test around and let you know if I find anything :)

EDIT: I got error when the games load: Fail to load SRD_SuperToolsEngine.js

so I cannot test it atm D:

the error probably is when the plugin is not added or is removed, while still
in your plugin database, it's either one of those 2 :)

but I'm always on a challenge, specially math based (which I'm good at).
the post-office was something I got through in 44 sec :D

others does longer, but it's good for the brains to train and keep it functional.

if it has many math at random, and I dont get the same, some might take longer :p
but I retest the game and let you know (hopefuly no errors at the start) :D

Make sure it's in a rar so you can download it in 1 package, not bulking :)

EDIT: here is a list of issues found so far, though the game frozed at issue 2 =)
Issue 1:

Quest:Find Classmates"

at the quest descriptionis the text cut off at ...classmates in the g ....?


Issue 2:

When your Best Friend comes to ask the player out to play, "Best Friend" is not visible.


Issue 3:

Teacher is walkable on training exercise.


Issue 4:

At the Town hall at the major: Mr.Teacher says:
"We are note sure we are coming, yet."

shoinld "coming" to be "going"?


Issue 5:

for test purpose, I made 1 mistake (answer was 10.80 (correct), but wrong when 10.8)
on 1 mistake as test purpose, Ms, Postwoman says:

"Good.
You had to try again a lot,
but you completed it!
Good for you for being persisten!"

it would be nicer is there where 3 or 4 options here,
1 for < 0 mistakes, (perfect, .... + reward (optional)
1 for < 1 mistakes, almost, just 1 mistake (no reward)
1 for < 3 mistakes, good, instead of again a lot, a couple mistakes (no reward)
1 for > 3 mistakes, with current text (no reward)

or similair as a suggestion. 1 mistake is not alot!


issue 6:

Millfarm has tileset issue (walkable trees, house walls and some others.

but nice game, (didn't check the quest log all the time yet, but there might be
similair issues though).

furthermore, all maps can improve, but do this later on though =)

I cannot post image, but if you have discord, I can make those with description,
so if there is something you dont understand, let me know and I try to explain more.

I know some isues have spelling issue (my mistake, not yours), but I was hunting
on the jaguars to get fur, (4th day proably, and no mail) might take 7 days probably,
but needed to heal, so I learned footwork.

I also notice 2 different encounters, on map and random, some goes in 2-5 steps.
but other than that, the apples, orange on the tree is a nice idea though.

not sure if the game can be at dividing gold or not, because I think I get more gold
now than after the split part :D (not that it matters though), but I got a long road
for that part, but the story so far, it's nicely done :)

Keep up the nice work ^^

Also hope that you get some more testers, for other mistake I overlook,
not currently bug/hard glitch the game atm, just the normal way for now. or the list
might be way longer :D.

take your time, dont rush, test some more with font, lenghts of width, quest long test,
(add all quests in test run for easy enable, disable), to see how the text shows).

but I continue tomorrow, or later this week, but when I play, I send you the issues
or suggestions/feedback where needed, so you can do whatever you want with it ^^.
