Mine was a basement suite, run by a fairly nice lady who just forgot to mention that every summer the place leaked in a ridiculous way. There are these little bugs called woodlice that only appear when there's some serious damp inside the walls, and by July the whole place was smelling super-musty. I'm not sure if it's an annual thing or what, but no way was I gonna deal with that place for another year.
We don't really get major bug infestations here in Canada (at least to my experience) but as it turns out spiders love to eat woodlice so I got a few of them running around. Not the cool kind that spins a web and keeps to itself, but the lazy kind that just hides under a couch and darts out all terrified when you come near.
The room I chose to live in also had this really weird iron-y smell to it. I never managed to figure out where it was coming from or get rid of it. It was there before I moved in, but I figured it was something the last tenant had done and it'd fade in time. Nope! Permanent bloody stench.
My roommate was kind of cool, though. He got married in the spring, so him and his fiancee were running around getting things set up and aaaaa newlyweds are so adorable!!
Soon as I'm back in Edmonton, I'm buying a huge wall mirror for the place to celebrate no longer having to walk all the way to the bathroom to check how I look in a tiny mirror about a foot below head level. Practicing anything dance- or stage-related was completely out of the question, too.
e: OH. ALSO.
FULL BATHTUB. YES. (I don't even care that I'm sharing the place with three other people.)
