@TarebearGames do you really need parallax mapping for tiles like that? And also the crisp and blurry graphics don't fit together -> stay with one style.

@terrorchan I really like your grass (1st version) it looks so fluffy and volumetric

@KanaX I made a quick tree in blender to show you what i meant in my earlier post, because it still looks "wrong":

This is what you do: ____________________ and this is what that same tree is supposed to look like in RM. . . technically

I am adding more into it, so yes, there are things I want to do and add with detail that I can do in parallax mapping.

Hey all, so I've recently been messing around with low-poly 3D modelling, when I had a thought... If I can easily turn a 3D model into a 2D render image, couldn't I make RPG Maker assets this way?

And so, the 3D tileset was born. Or rather, is in the process at any rate. This tileset is loosely based on the RTP tiles, albeit extremely simplified. Also note that this is very very WIP! It takes a lot of time to do this sort of thing, and I don't quite have the hang of it yet. (Autotile inside corners in particular seem to be very troublesome...)

Anyways, this tileset will be open to use once it is completed, and I'll be posting chunks of it as I am able. For those using this for commercial projects, please contact me.

Let me know what you think, and if there's any part of the RTP you'd like to see 3D-ed! I'm focusing on the overworld ground and water tiles currently.

I'm moving this to the WIP topic. When you have something ready to release for use, then you can post a topic in MV Resources.

Ahh, my bad. I'm still getting used to the forums, I only (properly) joined yesterday.

I'm needing some downed sprites for my project, but there aren't any downed ds sprites available, so I tried to make my own. Take a look at my first atrocities, I mean attempts:

Maybe I would be better off asking an actual spriter for help. Still any advise would be appreciated.

(the one in the middle is a default ds sprite to show off what I'm trying to base my "work" on)

@PrincessPixel nice, that makes me think of old N64 games like Banjo-Kazooie. The lighting and therefore the overall atmosphere looks a bit dark though. Try to find a good mid-level (or more like two-third-level) lighting setup in your 3D application or make night and day or indoor/outdoor versions.

For problems with autotiles i made myself a helping template. feel free to use it:

It's not actually as bad as you say it is! I actually quite like it! It would be perfect if he was squashed by a boulder, or drained of all his HP by a blood sucking bat. He looks a little flat though... The hat and clothes work well though. I'd say they're actually pretty good  :)

I did a quick dirty edit to help you out. My pc is lagging so pardon the ugly 'w')b

They look good but just needs refinement.

@hmind Thank you for the template, and the advice! I was aiming for a darker tone to my personal project, but changing the overall brightness is super easy. It's just a matter of changing around the directional light in my scene. I didn't think to change it for day/night/etc though, that's definitely a smart idea!

Thanks a lot, I actually used to draw but gave up on it because I had such a hard time wrapping my head about how to use color properly (To make things seem less flat amongst others)

Thank you so much, there is quite a difference, your version looks much better.

I'll definitely use it as a reference for other sprites.:)

EDIT: I made a couple of more sprites, the first one based in Archeia's amazing version, the second one, a Nirwanda original(ewwwww) :

Well so I have thought that the little character Yanfly uses in his/her plugins videos is really cute. So since I can't get that character I thought of making one and honestly I don't know much about spritting because I'm a noob. I'm slightly starting in this one just did it today in like 1 hour ago. I want to know what I can do to improve it. Please I want really specific details. So the one with just pink circles is obviously how it started.

Noobmadechar1.pngNoobmadechar.png

And since I just read the rules it doesn't say anything about prohibiting someone from asking for more advice I got this hair here that I did yesterday. I want details on how to improve it to make it look like a RTP hair or something at least close to it.

Having explored Blender for over a week now, I came up with a new model, supporting an old idea - rendering 3D Characters to 2D pixel art. I think I finally found a good way to achieve something that is quite close to pixel art with a reduced color palette. Well this project has no schedule because I rarely have the weeks of time it takes to make some progress but I wanted to show what's done so far:

testrender1_sumup_by_hminth-d9x9cky.png

to the left you see a render at 400% of the actual resolution, which is 48x96px (MV 2 tiles tall character resolution).
