That's gotta be confusing, I post a LOT on this thread.

@FleshToDust As a battler it's a good size but with everything else it looks randomly scaled instead of on purpose. It also makes the character's sprite look extremely tiny. I think the smaller character in battles could work for you but I think you should only do that if it helps with the story you're telling. For example, if you're using the smaller size to reinforce the feeling of someone being overwhelmed by a situation they find themselves in or if you are trying to get us to focus more on events than your character. But if you do, follow through all the way. Make the battlers either smaller or a type of creature that can easily be larger than life (like dragons or gods).

@starlight dream It's 96 tall from what I remember. Maybe that makes the map trees not work? Hmm...
Oh the colours are relaxing and warm aren't they? I didn't notice until you said that! Thanks. :)

Maybe to fix this I should either make the player and trees larger or make the wolf smaller and the trees larger since the player looks almost the same size as the trees.

What are the odds I'll have to make the player larger? I'm really not looking forward to that and adding a bunch more frames to try to make the animation look good. It might be the best thing to do though...

@Robert-Character Creator That looks funny. Little employee fighting the big bad boss manager. XD

Nonono. If any thread is merged with this one, then it won't count as a "new message" and won't notify you. And then subsequent messages won't give you notifications since you already have unread messages in this thread.

The hair being bad isn't From Ariel's fault though.

@FleshToDust Before you start making larger trees or characters, you can use the picture you posted, and edit the image itself, to increase the character size or trees. It will maybe look blurry, but it'll give you a visual idea of the scale that you prefer.

You have different options for changes :
- Downscale the wolf a bit.
- Make the hero bigger, but keep the trees at their current size (this will give the effect that the background is not important. But you'll have to keep the idea of a small battle background throughout the entire game)
- Or like you said upscale the trees & possibly the character too.

If the wolf is intended to be a Supreme Wolf :LZSooo: then it works like it's now.
Or if all the monsters are bigger than the hero, it is fine too!

@Rukiri What a nice sprite! I love that the color under the boots is different than the topside. Well done. ^.^b.

I had a thought. What if the player was larger but instead of a sword swing, he just moves a little bit forward and a separate attack animation unrelated to the player spritesheet plays that does the sword slash and damage effects? That way I won't need more than 3 frames and an additional plugin. I don't know if it will look good yet though.

That is a good idea too. It is often done and it works well.

Or you can try up-sizing the 3 frames you currently have. "Sometimes" the lines aren't killed in the process.

The player is larger again. He was this size before I reduced his size some time ago when the sword animation didn't look good. I also reduced the size of the wolf. Hopefully it has realistic proportions compared to the player now.

I also made the trees a realistic size compared to the player.
Hopefully everything works together now and has proper proportions.

Everything is altered with scaling. I still need to go back and smooth out the lines. This is just to get the sizes right.

Actually, the hair will be it's own character in the game. So it needs to be extra tall so it will still look big when it is off doing things on it's own. :) Yes, seriously. The style actually comes from ACTUAL photos of Trump's hair but 3x as tall. It's a parody game so it is meant to be exaggerated. A caricature if you will.

I think I will round the top down towards the front a little though so it's less Elvis'y.

@From Ariel That's so funny the hair as a living being! I like how your sprite looks and moves & the exaggerated hair is better for the caricature.^^b

@shadefoundry I really like what you've done with those tiles! And it's a nice shape for the rounded cliffs.

@FleshToDust Those proportions look better IMO. Hopefully smoothing the lines won't be too tough. :)

I also finished a bunch of enemy animations. I don't know how many frames of animation I should do per move so I'll probably be experimenting with that next. Everything is coming along nicely I think. I just need to give the wolf some moves and then I'll start drawing enemy number 2.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
