@acirnep
His head isnt moving up and down, so he looks like dancing to me instead of walking.
Like here in this video you see how the man's body and head move down and up while walking

Move down his upper body by one or two pixels, that should make it look better

Been some time since I posted here...

Would like to know your opinions regarding these tiles I'm making... I made everything except the roof...
Do you guys think something needs to be improved (or deleted and start from scratch)?

@acirnep I agree with @Puruiro's opinion, you need to make the characters head move up and down, that will give the illusion of walk. I believe one pixel down is enough, but try and see how it looks.

@Puruiro you're totally right. It wasn't so evident to me when using it in the program because then it actually moves, but looking at the gifs yeah, it really looks like dancing.
The video is superuseful!

I've tried editing the head, and also changed the profile a bit by making it less oval, and giving them some pecs and a bit of a bum. Not sure if it makes a difference.

@Guiguimu , thanks for the advice!
I think your tiles looks great, the only thing I'm not sure about is the sidewalk, because it looks like marble to me. It's a good tile, just not for a sidewalk imho.

@acirnep the little editions you made improved the sprite quite a lot in my opinion. I just think that the last side view had the walk cycle in a better way, your hands in the newer one seem to move in a weird way.
And thank you!!! Yeah ahah I'm glad you could tell, it was an interior tile I was using as a placeholder for a sidewalk one I have now finished.

@KaBlooZio the highlights on the last one definitely match the background a lot better.

HE-llo everyone!, i been doing my homework and i think some opinions could help me a lot.

first, what do you think of my art style? i really want to create some original graphics, so i think water color mixes could work very well, and i like the cute/calm/friendly vibe that gives, since the game is all about immersion with the world plus the music and atmosphere to create a conection betwen the player and the characters of the game.

this is a zoomed example of the graphics, i would like to give you a more "detailed" example, but for now this´ll do. Would you enjoy a more "artistic" aproach?

https://i.imgur.com/LPGGDEj.png

Also, i made an update on the in-game character, tell me what do you think of it?

https://i.imgur.com/EZplMTk.png

originaly i was thinking of giving it 9 frames of animation, but that was so much work and was taking so much time since im having troubles making the sprite sheets, so for now 3 frames will be ideal.

that is all, tell me your opinions, anything helps!, and also if you have some questions feel free to make them ñ.ñ
thx for you time !

I've been trying to make my own tile set and want opinions. Here's an example (ignore the bridge):

WIP.png

I tried limiting myself to 3-4 shades for every color. I think it seems off, like its not uniform. I feel like it's trying to be pixel art and realistic at the same time and it just doesn't work. I thought of trying to up the contrast, putting dark edges, or just scrapping and going for a less detailed retro style. Or maybe changing back to 48x48 (it's 24x24, I thought it'd be easier).
Tell me what you think.

@acirnep This is looking so much better!^^

@Raymaster Your artstyle is very cute, love the watercolor-y feel they give!

@Zephro I think, they all look very good to me, only the tall grass are missing some shadows under them, so they kind of feel out of place (its noticeable with the grass on the sand tile)

@RocketKnight I like the feel and the colors these tiles give me! Only the tent feels out of place because everything is in 3/4 view while the tent more in front view. I overdrew it to illustrate what I mean, hope that helps^^

I think that's because I skipped a frame, so the animation is unbalanced.
I keep on tweaking, not sure if it's doing it any good. I am probably going to take a break from this and work on something else.

@Raymaster love the watercolor style! But what is that stuff in the top right corner of the first pic?

@Zephro the only part that really bugs me is the tall grass, I think if you find a way to fix that it will all look more cohesive

@RocketKnight I agree with @Puruiro about the tent.

@Puruiro thanks!

@acirnep I believe it looks a lot better!!! Your front view animation is looking good! The arm on the side animation looks short, but since you're taking a break it can wait.

@Zephro I think it looks good, I really like how you did the water, and how the tall grass goes over it. If you add a shadow below it, it will look a lot better.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I added 10% opacity shadows underneath and I do think it looks better.

@RocketKnight I agree with Puruiro about the tent, and I think there's also a bit of perspective issue here:
http://prntscr.com/ibng68
The pillars look farther from the wall at the bottom but closer at the top. Probably nitpicking but otherwise I really like it.
Also there's this http://prntscr.com/ibni5d

Hair animation turned out nice, and now to add back the lighting :D
That has come along so far! the arms an legs look amazing with the shadowing that you used and the walking motion is very fluid... Nice work!

-edit wanted to add how I love how the boot picks up so it looks like he's treading ground. Really impressed!

I've never really done extensive graphical work before because I lack the patience and discipline for it, but I decided to give it a try because I got sick of all of my characters using the same ol' side-facing face template. Did the best I could in trying to make front-facing faces since I don't see (or at least haven't found) anyone making them. The head template's a little pointy, but I didn't bother changing it since it's going to be hidden by hair anyway. I included the sprite as reference since it's kind of what helped me shape what his hair should like like from the front.

If you put extra contrast in the hair it'll look shiny. A bit of highlight would be good too. Just put it in a small area, only where the light hits directly.
