That's humongous! What are you using it for exactly? That should help us help you better. Everything I can think of wouldn't require something this huge.
I'm going to shrink them down afterwards. I know some of the detail will be lost, but I like to have a large image because I'm also going to be doing 3D busts instead of the regular old facesets

Hey guys, I’m trying to bring this piece from my sketchbook over to the digital realm, however, I’m having trouble recreating the hair. I was wondering if anyone would be able to help?

Here’s the original sketch,
C51B3A2F-C9EF-4E54-AE81-70FFB5339F70.jpeg
As you can see, the hair is very loose and there are tons of thin strands flying all over the place. The problem is, I’m not sure how to recreate those strands while digitally inking the hair

My solution was to draw them in a lighter colour as to what I was inking with, but so far I’m not really liking the results.

I was wondering if someone knew of some better way I could go about doing this, or some way to make the strands blend in better when the hair is coloured and shaded

The way I usually do hair is paint the whole mass of it, then color-pick and draw out the thin flyaways, since hair usually has subtle shifts in color.

If you want the piece to be outlined, just outline the main part, do the flyaways in color. Before finalizing though, make sure to flip the image and fix whatever looks strange. We tend to tilt and distort things one way or another when we draw, flipping it from left to right or even upside down stops our brain from sorting out the things we intend to see and lets us see it for what it is.

@Jeannette I haven’t tried panting yet, though it sounds like it might work

@Sharm Just did that and it actually doesn’t look too bad! Though I know realize how weird the body looks, so i’ll Fix that.

Thank you both for the advice!

So I have been toying with the Idea of making a NES style game Using the nothing but the tiles that come with RPG Maker MV and I think I am close if not there already. Tell me what you think?

'General Discussion' is not for feedback on resources.
[mod]I am merging this with the Resources WIP thread which is such feedback.[/mod]

They look very color reduced, so putting them in a scene will look messy. You'll be obviously mimicking the style but you won't be getting any of the charm that makes the style so enduring despite being very out of date. You could probably find a way to make the color reduction better, but it will always be reduced looking unless you take the time to hand tweak everything. Pixel Art is all about the importance of every individual pixel and placing them purposefully to take advantage of that. You can't generate that.

Retouching the RTP to that level is going to be a lot of work. You might have an easier time either starting from scratch or finding an existing set that is already pixel. If you're set on the RTP though, you'll want to do some study on how to make good pixel art. Your main focus will need to be things like pixel clusters and the relative nature of colors.

You're wanting to make a NES game, huh? In that case your art will definitely need to have the purposefully placed pixel art look to attract the target audience. I'm pretty sure that there was a fairly extreme tile size limit on an NES. It might be a good idea to consider resizing on purpose to make each tile 16x16 or even 8x8. It's much smaller than the default 48x48 in MV but is a quick way to make something feel more retro. It's also less work, you literally have to do a fraction of the work on each tile. It takes more skill to do well with though, each pixel would have a bigger part to play and there's less room for details.

I tried to make a barbed wire fence for my project, since I can't seem to find anything I can use for a warzone.
It sucks. You may laugh now.

It doesn't suck, though here are some ideas for improvement:

The wire should not only have barbs on one side. Some should be visible on the other side of the wire, too. Move these new barbs a pixel or two to break the symmetry. It's also possible that two barbs are right beside each other, facing the same direction.

I'm not very knowledgeable about war, but aren't such barbed wires/fences makeshift built? So you can assume it's not that accurately connected from one post to another. The wire is probably a bit buckled and on the posts you can see how the wire is hastily wound around them.

In case the wire is swallowed by the ground textures, you can try adding a (even much) darker shade of grey below your wire to give it more visibility.

Otherwise it looks fine in my eyes.

Started work on characters now that i have my character base ready, i decided to work on a somewhat older one which i then edited a good amount (tired of working on the templates).
Plenty may have seen this template in the past i think, at least the older version (up now in other places), i'm curious what you guys think of the skin color i've chosen before i go into other tones.
I was having troubles with the colors when i uploaded an image with Chrome, they turned dull, but everything seems to show correctly with Firefox after i uploaded and got rid of the older images..
If anyone else uses Graphics Gale i would love to know what numbers you read for the main/base skin color, i have a 30,88,84 on the HSL tab.

*Having problems with the images not displaying after saving them, i will get back to this in a while, hopefully you guys can see the image at least.

Please tell me what you think about the sample characters too, i am using these to further fine tune the template before i add it to the forums, i plan to upload when i have something that i wont have to edit again and again, again ..

I will have to upload these again later, seems i can see them but something is wrong with the jpeg file when i download it.

I've started a little project. It's a sort of "generator" for character busts. Right now, it's still just a psd file with lots of layers.
Here are some examples:
For now, these are just prototypes to test it, look for a good artstyle and to see if people would be interested. Obviously, the quality of the finished product would be better.

Right now I'm still unsure about a few things. For one, if I should make it a waist-up bust instead of a thigh-up. I've realized it's more work than I thought and reducing a piece of clothing would already help. I also have to tweak how the recoloring should work to make it easy and look better. And how to properly arrange the layers.

Anyway, what do you guys think?

Hello, all. I've been gone for the past couple of months, but during that time I MS-Painted some concept art for one of the enemies in my game. I wanted to know what kind of vibes people get from this design, or some critiques on how to improve it. Included are several poses, as well as a child and adult for scale.

I find them insectoidly spooky if they appear out of nowhere without announcing themselves. :3 (I do hope that is what you were getting at! :) )

@Marquise* Yes! These are among the most dangerous enemies, but they can't move from their spot. You're walking in the dark, and all you can see is three bright white pixels; you approach to investigate and die from an unseen attack!

It's meant to be more amorphous than insectoid, but I'll take what I can get. For extra eeriness, the small limbs on the torso writhe continuously. The only way to kill one currently is with explosives.

They do kind of remind me of SCP creatures (SCP Containment Breach)
They also remind me of the endoskeleton of animatronics
