@aceri
the biggest problem i can see with the bush is the outline doesn't match the shading
what the heck am i talking about? check out this comparison

Outside_B.png

as you can see each time in the rtp tree that it bulges out, they bring that bulge around into the actual shadings of the tree, to make the outline and the rest fit together and to make it feel more three dimensional. right now the texture you're doing with your shading is good, but the overall surface is flat.

Okay so I took your advices and tried sprucing it up and giving it some depth. I'm not really good at that sort of thing but hopefully this turned out better.

I also readjusted that big old tumor looking thing on the side of the tree, it looked out of proportion to me.

@Hyde

I really like your maps.

@Aceri

Your bush is looking real nice there. I really like the style you are going for.

Hi guys, would you mind giving me a bit of feedback on a sprite I have just finished.

It just feels to me as though something is not quite right with the hair for the left and right poses.

Any suggestions on what it might be as I have been staring at it for ages but still can't figure out :dizzy: .

Thanks in advance.

The tree has a very pillowshaded feel to it to me. You need to decide if youre wanting realistic or abstract trees. If youre wanting realistic then you need to have more contrast and definition of the leaves. If youre wanting more abstract, dont make the leaves just one big blob. The person who made the texture tutorial you used has a pretty good tree tutorial. Besides that, trees are hard and the best way is to study games that you like and figure out what you like about them. Also, you have a side not top down perspective on your tree

oops my tablet didnt show the newest posts... But your edited bush really still falls under the same suggestions, it looks better but it still looks like a solod blob

Looking great Archeia. My only suggestion is improve the outline AA on mostly the foliage of the trees.

Feels a little like the branches are mostly in the back to me, but besides that they look great :)

Aceri - your windows need to be the same size, those look distracting

You think with those window sizes varying that it would be better if like say I set those in like a door or something, or just splice the big ones down the middle and make like eight little ones instead of four misshapen ones?

Been working on a new balloon set for my game as I don't much like the original one. It also clashed horribly with the style of my new project.

The new one is almost 100% original with the exception of three elements from the original rtp(the musical notes, the zzz's and the candle respectively. All have been edited though)

I saw a lot of people complaining on the forum about lack of more serious balloons, so I let myself be inspired by vagrant story, and tried to go for a sharper, more adult comic book style with a slight touch of medieval elements(the font for the exclamation mark and question mark is a nice gothic font.)

Here is my attempt at some old gameboy style graphics. I am just starting and I would really like to do that style well, so any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Maptest.png

this is a map made in the picture editor just to see what the three tiles would look like. Top, a rocky divider and a grassy bottom.

Greyscale Grass.png

A simple grass tile. I checked and it appears to repeat nicely, although a grid may be apparent due to the cluster in the center and spaced out blades around the edges.

Greyscale Rocks.png

Just my attempt at black and white rocks I guess.

Greyscale Tall Grass.png

These to me came out more cartoonish than 8bit.

GreyscaleDirt.png

Just some dirt.

Unrelated, here's another attempt at a grass tile:

those balloons are awesome hian, are you making them available for general use?

I'm not sure. Maybe I'll just give it away to people who ask.

I figured I could make a couple of other sets for general use, since balloon resources seem kind of scarce.

But, if many people seem to like this one, I night just have to make it generally available too.

you might want to put a watermark on them then, right now they're looking very grab-friendly

if you make some more sets, that would be awesome as well, they're really nice-looking

This is my first attempt at editing portraits. I was going to use Celiannas editor but it didn't have the outfits my main character needed, so I just did them manually. How did it turn out? I am thinking I should of done the straight bangs not the wavy ones for a male character.

testedit.png

Edit:

Here's the changed version. How do I add shadows? Do I use like alpha channels or just a greyish version of skin color?

@hian Like the candle balloon alot! Need a treasure chest, switch, and door/stairs would be great too!

Need a blank sheet too. Like the style of em.

@Archiea Like the tree but wish you had one more where the foliage was different looking but what caught my eye was your character!!! That is an excellent size and proportion. When will that set be in the shop?

@DancingDrake Hope you entered Pixel Madness cause that is epic!

@Celianna LOL! All I see is look who popular! (Bandwidth exceeded!)

If anyone is good at portraits can tell me what I could do better I'd be greatly appreciative.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
