@Ak47!! Whoa! Nice Character!

You need make a tutorial on how you did the sprite work on that!

I would love to see how and learn how to myself.

@Sweetnessrain Very nice style and artwork! Wish I had some face portraits like that for my game.

I'm working for a request. It should be a intelligent, distinguished NPC, despite his looks. He needs to be monstrous, but not like a bully.

Baron Fishbone.png

I'm not confident with the front part, especially his face. I have two versions, both silly.

And, another thing that bothers me: He is walking quite stiff. Especially from behind.

Maybe the colors and saturations aren't fitting, too. Ah, well, not a good character for a starter to learn spriting. :D

@Physeter: Wow I like your little monster sprites, given the size I can still make out quite a bit of detail - working at that sort of scale is really tough! Nice use of red to split up some of the character!

EDIT: The base I used was a rip from a game and therefore I deleted the entire sprite.

I also have no criticisms to the above artists, they are all awesome! Good job guys.

this is my very first attempt at spriting, I made it on a mack style template, I already see some stuff that should be improved on it, but I would like some info on it from all of you

Wow, thank you all for the praise! I'm flattered... :wub:

But honestly, the face from the front looks silly! Do you have any suggestions?

Okay, sooo, I'm trying something new. I'd like a more doll-like appearance for my characters, so, I found a doll base and the owner is allowing me to use it, so yay! Anyways, here it is. I'm not sure how it would look in the actual game, but it should be fun to try!

The size definitely needs some changing, but, what do ya guys think?

@Ruby: Ehhh, not a fan. Then again, I'm not a huge fan of dolls! XD They're usually shaded strangely (like the one you're using -- pillow shading everywhere @__@)!

Regardless of how I feel about dolls, though, I don't think it would look good in a game, and I think it's more trouble than it's worth, to be honest. The doll base has looooots and lots of colours, which means looooots and lots of colours to use in every sprite, and to animate, and BLAH BLAH BLAH YOU GET THE PICTURE. OTL I've found that less colours are easier to manage when spriting. >w<d

I'd recommend trying to make your own base! Use the doll as inspiration if you dig the cute look (I, uh... IT'S TOO CUTE FOR MY TASTES but that is just my taste), but don't be afraid to make your own thing. >w<d

TRUST ME, IT'S FUN. <3

@Shin: Just a friendly reminder -- fix your signature. I haven't sized it myself, but it's getting a tad on the large size and I am fairly certain it's over the size limit. If you could put more of it in a spoiler or squish it together more, that would be rad! Thanks~!

@Shin: Thanks, I think it's cute too, but the eyes need some definite work. :)

@Emmych: I completely agree. Dolls are (IMO) creepy, especially pixel dolls. You have no idea how hard I looked for this base (It was the only semi-normal one). Animating the doll shouldn't be a problem. And, I'm terrible with body dimensions, so making my own base is out of the question at least until I learn to sprite better. XD Just wondering, what did you mean by "Lot's of colors" I *tried* using around the same colors as the VX styled sprites and I agree they are a bit brighter, but I don't understand. XD

The head also need some slimming. XD Much too large for my liking. And thanks for the shading comments! I'll try and use a more VX style of shading. :)

She is soooo much better. Thank you Emmych!!

@Ruby;

Such a cute sprite!, she looks adorable, although maybe the eyes are a tad far apart?

@Bravo2Kilo;

You've done such a nice job :) its amazing the difference between the templates! he looks

less stodgy now ^^

Ummmmm; So I wanted to use the first portrait I posted as my future community character

(when she's finished ^^) And got around to designing her full body in order to make reference

for future battlers/sprites, and she picked up a companion dog along the way :)

Her name's Sweet and the doggie is Coco; the Coco image up in the top left is based off Missile

from Ace Attorney/Ghost Trick. I also mocked up a rough idea for her sprite which is under the

logo...

What do people think? Do you like her? :)

I am looking for feedback on the tileA4 grey building walls. They look so flat, and although I want them to stay sleek and modern looking I still want them to be easily differentiated from the sidewalks and roads.

(I know I can use other colors like brownstone for downtown, but I was hoping for some shading/contrast advise to dimensionalize the walls a bit.) I think the downspouts and skinny windows help, but I am looking for input. ty.

Also I like my mailbox, but when I try and make it with more depth it gets rather awkward - is it okay as is?

streetlights, telephone poles, cars, garage door and roads are not mine. Tile A fences are mine, with Icy's chain link. RTP I made last might while Al Gore was inventing the internet =]

problem's your mapping. i wouldn't use those roof tiles (the rtp roof tiles are horrible and don't really make much sense the way they are constructed).

either way, you need to extend those roods. it looks your buildings are only one tile thick.

Buildings that thin just don't look good imo, the tile colors are fine
