Maybe looking at how the back of the veil on the nun in the XP sprites might help to see how to do this?  If you have the Game Character Hub, it has the nun too, (though in the VX section) so you can see it more clearly.

@palladinthug

love him.  He's great.

Okay, just to start off.

I make a little set of trees, used RTP colors.

Facesets, have been working on for days!

Trying out a different sprite style.

20 colours. I admit the tree is lacking some real dynamism right now. It looks too rigid and boring.

@BCj: Uhm, actually she is wearing an eyepad.

And made the grass with textures for a smooth feel.

I am confused what sprites to use here. Even the DS sprites is bigger then these tiles.

ksjp17, thanks for the suggestion.  I used the sprite from People2 in the RTP as a gauging point, and made some adjustments.  Doesn't look like the dye didn't take in place now, I think.  Thoughts about this faithful servant of Allah (take two)?

Depends on how accurate you want to be.  Generally speaking, a woman wearing this sort of clothing would not have a belt pulling it in at the waist.  It would be loose and flowing.

Most, yes.  Given this gal is one of m' playable characters, I needed something to differentiate her from others wearing an abaya, and thought a simple belt would do the trick.  I'm open to suggestions if you've an idea.

I would definitely use another color to make the fabric seem less flat.  The side view looks like a ninja mask more than the normal garb, so I would also try and extend the fabric down over the mouth a bit.  Her breasts shouldn't be showing through that type of fully covered outfit, you may want them to be less pronounced as it seems to be skin tight.

There's really no way to make a character look unique while wearing that outfit, that's what the outfit is for.  I'd say just have her wear a cloak if you really want to make her stand out from the others, pretty much anything else would be out of character for the culture.

Okay, gave it another shot.  I figure I should use some creative license to have her get exiled and take up the belt as a bit of rebuking those that kicked her out, though I imagine in the real world, stoning is more likely for a woman than exile.

Anyways, I updated the niqab so that it doesn't look like a ninja mask.  Also, for no belt, had to make it more drab, draping and bland, for the reasons of that culture disenfranchising women.  I present the updated versions, including before and after the belt.

My pixel skills need some practise :x

Maybe I should add a bit more contrast, but it's to late do decide that right now >_>

Your saturation is super low.  If you bring it up by about 40 it looks a whole lot better.

Icons start off, still a bit dirty. (Fire and Ice)

A WIP, though. .

@Justin Zalett

The ice icon looks like a good, random shard/lump.  Not all ice is pretty, and it's a good run if that's what you're going for.

The fire, though...looks a bit like an amoeba.  Might do well to repurpose into an infected state.  Flames, where there's gravity and thus different densities, tend to rise and thin into points, cooler at the top than at the source of the blaze.  The gradient you have looks correct; it's a matter of shaping.

Trying another face, this time for a man of Arab decent wearing a ghutrah (type of headdress).  I'm...not exactly pleased with how it turned out, and am wondering if I should scrap the red (a common colour and pattern on such garb), or repair/redo it.  Thoughts?

I think it's not so much the colour as the shape of the headdress and the fact that there are no folds in it.  At the moment the shape is rigid looking, and very rounded, so that it looks more as if it were made with some rigid material, rather than cloth.

The shape of the headdress is too high and dome-like.  It is supposed to be the same size and shape as his actual head,   So that black band should be close to his eyebrows - otherwise you are saying that his forehead has the same height as the rest of the face put together.  Then see how the headdress continues upwards - this guy must have the biggest skull ever!

Then look at how the cloth falls - what's filling it out from the edge of his ears (which we can just see) so that it doesn't fall straight down?  I know this is going to sound ridiculous, but get hold of something like a tea towel, put it over your head and look in the mirror to see how it falls straight down, covers the ears and the edges of your face.

Alrighty, made a few tweaks.  Couldn't get the red to fall right after adding folds, thus it was scrapped.  And, every shot I've seen of a real person wearing this kind of headdress has the black bands really far up the head like that, even though it looks and seems a bit counter-intuitive.  Culture different from the one I was raised in; not allowed to judge.

Anyways, I think it came out much better this time.  Feedback?

@BCj

It took me a while to work out why I wasn't too happy with it, but I think what it is, is that the tone of the flat-plane colours is a bit bland.  There's something about the tone/hue of the section below the text which is particularly dispiriting.  Which is presumably the opposite of what you want people to feel.  Also, the way you've highlighted the edges of the design doesn't feel quite right.

Not being a professional artist I struggle to put it all in the right terms, so you may have to think a bit laterally to understand what I mean.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
