@BCj

It took me a while to work out why I wasn't too happy with it, but I think what it is, is that the tone of the flat-plane colours is a bit bland.  There's something about the tone/hue of the section below the text which is particularly dispiriting.  Which is presumably the opposite of what you want people to feel.  Also, the way you've highlighted the edges of the design doesn't feel quite right.

Not being a professional artist I struggle to put it all in the right terms, so you may have to think a bit laterally to understand what I mean.
Thank you. I'll see if I can change it a bit :)

So I was astounded to see people saying that there weren't any Castle resources, I mean, really?

So I spent some time looking at all of the Medieval photos we have for the kids at school who study the Middle Ages and was looking for things in the pics that are just not available in our resources.

And I came up with the idea of tapestries.

So here is my attempt at some tapestries. Feedback is, of course, appreciated.

I used to draw/overdraw some icons last dawn.

This is toxin dart gun. Not a overdraw.

Typical T shirt.

This is a overdraw.

A great idea, I'd not thought of that.  A couple of things I wonder about.  If these are for the kids you teach then ignore most of what I am about to say.

They are lovely, but they are not really medieval in 'feel'; they seem more like 19th century samplers.  I don't think that the light rays in the one on the right fits in with a medieval feel.  The tapestries I've seen tend to be much simpler in line and colour, which, given the constraints on time and resources, meant that - except for the very highest quality - backgrounds are much simpler.

@Justin When you're learning pixel art you need to start smaller, large images take a lot of attention to detail and skill.  If you still want to work on larger characters, work on your anatomy first before going to the trouble of coloring/shading

@Nearly Noon, love those faces :)   there's quite a bit of banding around the neck and I'm not sure I understand the shading on the 2nd guy on the bottom.  I'm pretty sure the skull guy will be awesome when it's finished

Put those tiles into a mockup as soon as you can, you'll get a better idea of how they'll interact with each other and the sprite. It's the easiest way to tell when something is too busy, not contrasted enough and stuff like that.

Ahh, I know your advice wasn't aimed at me, but I will benefit from your experience nonetheless and do that. =]

Scythuz Requested a view of the side
 and back of this sprite

I'll move onto downed, damaged, and behaviors now.
He looks quite regal! The off-center cape is brilliant. Caped sprites usually turn into a sprite of a cape, if you know what I mean; this one looks like a sprite wearing a cape. I predict a trend and lots of copying.

Do you think a bit of color on the side view can be added to the face to make the nose as bit more of a feature? just a few features of a darker color maybe between the nose and the eye to make that part of the face more defined? (not as dark as at the bottom! Just a shade difference. Two pixels maybe. Just a thought.)

I love him! He's handsome and interesting. =] Great sprite.

@palliadinthug - you have a dissapearing outline on your back view.  Cape has really nice movement.  I'd put some more contrast in the face though, there doesn't seem to be much definition, I'm not sure what its supposed to be.

@Omega Weapon - they tile nicely but they don't look like the go together.  The top left and bottom right are too saturated and the top right and bottom left look to have basically no saturation.  If you're making them for one game you might look into developing a palette for you to use first.  Also the top right doesn't seem as detailed as the others, same with the bottom right but to a lesser extent.  I'd add in some pitting and rough patches.

@grandma deb - I love those :)   I'd play with the palette on the interior scene, maybe palette swap from something of the period or a sepia tone or something... might make it fit a tad better.

@GrandmaDeb Thank you for the compliments.  I agree with what you and @Cosmickitty have said.  His face could use more darker colors for better definition.  I will be sure to revisit him again.  I see the disappearing outline now, which I can edit out as a few errant pixels.  Hopefully I can patch him up.

Here is the next one on the list.
I used the RTP styled dress and hair style.

@Paladinthug - are the white highlights standard in the ds rtp?  if so ignore this... if not I'd switch to something a little more brown.  Also the dress doesn't move, i'd do it where it raises and a foot comes up on the step

Different style character I've been working on, each animation only cycles once so it goes a tad fast

So I was working on my own macksprite. Can anyone check if its okay?

I know the animation is off, for some reason it shows pixels from other frames too. Also, was wondering whether I should make her barefooted or nnot. The first three frames are with bare feet.

@BCj

maybe post the full character sheet to see why you get that strange bit of extra hair popping out of the top of her head?  There are also stray pixels around her that need cleaning up.

I like both the with and without shoes.  The choice boils down to which would suit her character better.

Alright, hopefully people won't steal this as this is for my commercial game:

She's a sort of catspecies, think of Rei of BoF3. That's why I think she'd be better off without gloves/shoes. Thing is, I editted a female human sprite for the legs, they look very womanly (human) now.

She's based on a portrait by Vitamindog btw.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
