i really wish this forum had a click enlarge feature....

the shading is weird in both versions, the hair doesn't have enough variation in the shading except for the black outline.  Placement is okay, just not the colors.

What would you suggest for the colors? :)

The hue is fine you just need a lot more contrast. Highlights brighter, shadows darker, that sort of thing. If you're uncertain about color choice it's okay to use the colors from an existing sprite.

I'm trying to edit my sprite to make him carry a bag:

I'm not sure if the arm's length is right. It's the same as the original walking sprite, but upward it looks very short because of the big head.

Doesn't look short to me, but the outline going all the way around it looks a bit odd, like the arm isn't attached.

Ah, yes. Thanks. I'll tone down the outline under the armpit.

@cabfe not sure if you're using a custom sprite or rtp so i don't know which is right, but your feet are not the same size/shape in your walk one seems quite pointy and the other looks a little clown shoe.

@bcj slightly belated... but i'd do something like this edit.png

@Cosmickitty:

You're right. It's been so long since I created this sprite, I forgot to fix the shoes. That's what happen when you get used to bugs ;)

A new pair of eyes is all that was needed.

Here's a final (?) version. I did all four directions but I won't bother you for each one. Thanks for pointing it out!

Yes, im actually working on this Mantis sprite by request...as you can see, im barely finished with it. Its just one frame so far...but im already dissatisfied with it. I was wanting it to fit the RTP style...but it obviously doesn't, although I dont think it "bad" necessarily. I had a similar issue with another sprite i did for some one. I know that the RTP sprites are much more colorful, and 'to me' kind of shiny (dont really know how to explain it any other way). Please, give any constructive feed back you deem appropriate.

You've got a good start, now you just need the right shading and highlights, plus a nice shadow underneath. I don't think it looks wrong, just unfinished.

Thanks for the feedback....im not quite sure what you mean by "high lights" though. Im going to try shading it some more next. It does need a shadow underneath though huh, lol....and i just noticed...its missing two of its legs...how embarrassing, lol.

Highlights are the shine, the parts that are lighter than the main color.

i could be wrong.... but my understanding is that the sprites are actually pixel art and only the tiles are painted... maybe that's different with larger characters, but if that's intended to by pixel art your color count is wayyyyy too high. look over this: http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11299&PID=139322#139322 especially the banding section
Thank you very much for that link, it will be very help for latter on :) . But anyway....I wasn't really going for painted or pixel art, not exactly....i was just trying to make it as close to the RTP style as posible. Im not sure if the RTP sprites are pixel art or painted either.

Ok, so my mantis sprite isn't pixel art...and it has to many colors?
Your mantis is pixel art.The pixels look very intentional, but you're not making effective use of the medium in terms of pixel art. The wide use of colors is appropriate for something that is painted, or larger, but at the current scale, you would make a more effective sprite- especially since you're using around 1200 colors in it.

Due to the small scale, you should be relying on the interaction between colors to create the appearance of more colors, without actually using more colors. I'm going to refer to a very excellent article on how your colors should be interacting. Keep in mind that some of the RMVX palettes actually use LESS than 256 total for multiple sprites across different sheets.

Hello again! Im back, but this time i was wanting to see if anyone could give me any feed back about this wall tile A4 im working on. I showed it to my sister, camparing it to the RTP wall tiles, but she said she thinks it need more shading (of course, shes not much of an artist...so, that may not mean much. But thats why i came here.

Anyway, this is a before i shaded it, and after i shaded.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
