@Elitezeon  It's interesting, even if I do not know what sort of art style you're doing.

I have been working on emotions and I am not certain about if they look right.

@EliteZeon - you definitely have the "creepypasta" thing going on there, dude!

@Caitlin - mouths look good. =]

I am re-doing my gutters. (old at left, new right, desaturated and a warmtoned gold)

I am thinking the new is better, but should all houses have desat gutters? You almost never see colored gutters (except on very old homes with copper) but an older house may have gutters that look more ivory/tan due to age.

And I added shadow at the top of the bricks(4 pixels deep, black at 60% 40% 20% 10%)

but it looks too light to me.

I have been thinking of just using th shadow tool on all of them becasue so many modern houses have deep eaves and therefor dark shadows.

Of course the best thing would be to have gutters there too, but I just cannot get it to look right at all!

Desat or Warm? Better? Or remake...

@grandmadeb:

yes, the topshadow at the bricks is too light, you said it yourself. Easiest way to ajust this, is to copy your shadow layer (I do hope, you have seperat layers for your shadows ;)   ) and then play a bit with the opacity of the copied layer. If you don't have a shadow layer, create a new layer, fill it with 2px 40% and down 2px 20%. See how it looks. Shadows are often a thing, you have to play around with, making different versions. This is why I keep them on different layers. Love those roofs by the way.

The gutters look too bright to me for the brickhouse. You have to be mindful what works together. It works beautiful with the house on the left, because this yellow and white go well together, but it clashes a bit with the brick. Maybe tone it down (more greyish or a light brown/ocher) and/or make it in a bigger border (maybe 2-3px bigger than the size of the gutter).

Two other things I see now in this screenshot. The shading of the shop signs base are reserved. You have the highlights on the right side and the darker shading on the left side. In the rtp the light comes from the left side, so you should switch that sign around. And the glass doors are missing some shadings. Especially a 1-2px light shading on the top and left side of the glass. Try it out :)

Hope those suggestions help you out.

Can I double like that, Candacis???

All those years everyone else was in art class and I was in other classes and doggone I am so far behind. This stuff is real work and I am continually amazed.

I take the exact same color and stick it in two different places on a wall and it looks like two different colors. Now I am running into the same problem in another way.

/me laughs at herself.

Appreciate the input. Back to work.

Alright thanks! I guess the boss design is good enough for now. Now I just need to get around to animating his attack animations and such... (ugh)

In the meantime, I think I got something that works for the idle animation for my Wasp enemy. The wings are still pissing me off, but I am not sure what the best way to approach them at all... eh, he's just a regular mob, so maybe it is good enough for now.

Personally though, I really like this guy because of the awesome bomber hat I gave him.

I also played around a little and decided to make the idle animation for a supporting character I have for my RPG.

The idea behind this character, Kami, is that she is actually armless, having had them removed around birth, so they are just stubs. If you look at her elbows, he sleeves are actually tied, and the remaining parts of the sleeves are flailing about.

She has a thing for painting, and generally uses her feet to do regular hand-activities.

(Yes, she's extremely based off a certain character from a certain visual novel thing)

Since my world is all RPG and Fantasy with magics and wonders, Kami here has the magic of conjuration and constructs. As such, she has the ability to create magical hand/claws/objects and use them for all sorts of things. (Very Green Lantern style)

I am somewhat proud of the magical sparkles I gave her arms, as well as the number of movement this character has compared to my previous heroes I designed.

Hrm, the hair is bothering me a little (maybe I need to find new shades of blue), and I wonder if I can somehow put a knife in her mouth... but my Battlers use too little pixels, augh!!!

I also wonder if I can get her constructed arms to look a little better/bulkier/different without eating too much of the design.

Augh, you know what? I should really get around the finishing the four main characters' Battler animations already...

Thanks for you help with my Modern Exterior Tileset!

Okay, the two most common gutter colors are white and cameo, and then Almond.

So I used Ocher as you Suggested Candacis. ( I made a new layer selected in the gutter area and filled it with a transparent ochre and also an almond.)

Darkened the shadows.

I had to up the contrast with the almond to keep it from looking like a solid color.

Any better? Too little change?

Ocher/grey

Almond

I prefer the ocher. That little touch of red make them more interesting to the eyes.

It can also suggest some rust, which is consistent with an aging house.

So I've been gone for quite some time, mostly working trying to get cash and survive suburbia, but it seems like I finally got some time to work on pixel art again, and what better thing to work on than tilesets?

Here's something I've been doing for my personal project, I am trying to go back to the old school NES days.

I will try and update as much as possible.

Thanks, I try, a bit of the inspiration is straight from classic tittles like Final Fantasy, and Dragon Quest.

I am hoping to get the over world tiles ready some time soon, then move into the world tiles, as soon possible to be able to start building mock ups.

If there are any suggestions or tips on how to improve please do tell.

So I was making some top-down dungeon tiles

Yes, this is almost top-down. More like Zelda perspective. Not the standard RPG Maker perspective, which is misnamed.

Actual top-down wouldn't make the walls visible.

You're right. Maybe we can rename the style "Zero-In" or something. =]

But I like the tile. Detailed, but well incorporated details.

@Granny, they tend to call it the "3/4 oblique perspective" as well. However, that is the complex name. Just start calling it the RPG Maker perspective. Then everyone knows what you mean.

and thanks. Still improving on it, doing the inverted corners and stuff.

Looking good so far! I'd really love to see how those tiles look in a mockup.

There is? Woah, don't know how I missed that.

Yep, looks good. The (pine?)trees are inconsistently colored compaired to the other tiles. Those tiles have bold black and go right to the main color, but the trees have some anti aliasing. You should get rid of it or use the darker green to more boldly define the internal shapes of the shading.

Decided to work on a logo, seems to be easy to read the name until you shrink it down and it gets a bit blurry.  Then it looks like Out Storm....

EDIT:  Do you guys find this one easier to read as "Out of the Storm"?
