Wait for Persona 4 Golden which will be released on Ps Vita, they have added new contents.

Also, they're going to release a last episode of Persona 4 in anime, it will cover the true ending you can have when you do a new game+.

In persona 3 on psp, they added the option to play a boy or a girl protagonist and updated the systems to match Persona 4.

Also, an animated movie for Persona 3 is planed.

Have you seen darker than black? it's a very good anime (scratch that it's f*****g great IM0) but it's not a horror. You really need to expand you're horizons with anime, and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is the best place you could possibly start.

    Watch Fairy Tail:

or watch Legend of Korra (I would actually recommend to watch the normal avatar first, but what the hey)

those are the two best animes I've watched lately, don't know if they match you're "demands", but they are really good, however Fairy Tail, might seem a bit like Naruto, but give it a try.

Legend of Korra has only 1 season with 12 episodes, but it's twelve episodes of pure awesomeness.

[C] The Money of Soul and Possibility is a pretty modern anime.

It's set around the concept of fighting over money, and it's brilliant!

    Go, watch!

None of them, because they are all awful.

...okay but yes for seriously. I remember watching one a while ago that really creeped me out, but I can't remember what it was called or what exactly it was about...? IT WAS SCARY AND GOOD AND THAT'S ALL I REMEMBER and gosh this post was unhelpful

JUST LISTEN TO THE PEOPLES AROUND HERE. I guess what I mostly have to say is GIVE A SHOW A FEW EPISODES OF CHANCE BEFORE YOU SAY "nopppp this is boring" -- sometimes it takes a little while to get into a show! I MEAN I WATCHED THE FIRST EPISODE OF DOCTOR WHO AND WAS LIKE "eh whatevs" BUT THEN I WATCHED A FEW MORE AND WAS LIKE "oh my god I have so many feelings now what is this what is this emotion I am feeling oh god ;___;"

Cowboy Bebop - very philosophical, I don't know if that fit's your bill for psychological. Future setting. Dark but not without humor.

It has elements of horror without becoming a 'horror' anime.

I'd recommend Madoka, although the post-modern setting has little to do with the actual story. At least watch it up to the end of episode 3.

As some others have said, Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra are both strong shows, although they aren't Anime, not that that matters. I would put lesser emphasis on Korra, though, because its season finale was a self-conflicted, nonsensical-romantic-sub-plot-poisoned disaster of epic proportions. You might want to wait until Korra's second season starts in 2013 so you have something to make up for that.

Eureka Seven is also pretty decent, and post-modernish if it really matters that much to you.

I thought hyakka ryouran samurai girls was pretty modern. It looked like sengoku japan but everything was buffed up with technologies.

The greatest anime of all time, in my opinion, would be Gundam 0083. It's before all of that sparkly, big-eyed SEED kind of stuff and I guarantee you'll be glad that you watched it. It's basically 12 episodes of non-stop action and classic, early 90s-style animation.

I couldn't really recommend much more than that!

Sailerius just reminded me. Garzey's Wing is a series with a modern setting, and it's by Yoshiyuki Tomino!

Unfortunately, he was asked to cram a story written for a 26-episode series into only 3 episodes, which understandably resulted in an incomprehensible trainwreck.

The english dub; however, is comic gold. The voice-actors are clearly just as clueless about the plot as the viewers are, and they seem to be competing to determine who can sound the most unmotivated. It's worth every cent of the $2 that it costs to pick it up on eBay.

I heartily recommend the English Dub of Garzey's Wing.

It is the most incomprehensibly amazing thing you will ever see.

Hey, Bugs Bunny managed to contain a whole trilogy of opera into about three minutes.

Three episodes should be enough for the history of the world :p
