The RMW Chain Game has been in production for a couple months now. It is complete: 11 chapters in total. Despain got the ball rolling, and I've done what I could do get this baby completed for RSW! It's not perfect, but it was fun and I'm sure all the developers enjoyed making it. There were also some first-time developers involved in the project, which is always cool; hopefully they stick around and go on to make some awesome games!

Storyline

The Four Memory Songs - Sand, Fire, Water, and Wind - were sealed by the ancients to prevent an evil force from obtaining them. These songs only resonate with some people - the Shadowy Being is not one of them! So how does he obtain them? Hmm... Join Gita, a daring adventuress, on her quest to find the Memory Songs. Along the way, she finds herself being deemed 'Eric the Silver Reaper'. Why is this? Play to find out!

What is a chain game?

I'm glad you asked. The idea is simple: everybody took a turrn creating a chapter in the game. When one chapter was finished, it was passed on to the next person in the chain. By the end, a bunch of people collaborated on one game!

This is a fun activity: everybody is invited to participate in future chain games. The idea is to just have fun with RPG Maker and make some games. Get goofy and enjoy yourself. Take a break from your serious project and throw together a chapter.

Part of the fun of making chain games is seeing how the storyline turns out. In this chain game, effort was taken to tie the plotlines together in the final acts and flesh out all the areas. Hopefully we succeeded! Thank you to everyone who participated and for keeping this thing alive to the end!

Gameplay

Simple-yet-engaging battles, seven puzzle-driven dungeons, and plenty of exploration! Solve water puzzles, flip buildings upside down, create stepping stones, smash holes into walls, discover hidden treasure chests and paths...it's all here!

Chapter Descriptions

Chapter 1
The chain game begins with the treasure loving explorer, Gita, when a mysterious shadow figure appears to unravel an unexpected quest that Gita must involuntarily partake in.
By Despain

Chapter 2
This chapter begins straight after Gita escapes the Temple of the Sands. A group of shadow monsters now await to munch up our new hero as she travels through the forest on her new quest.
By Clord

Chapter 3
The quest now further unfolds as Gita learns more about the mysterious four songs and in her awakens the Memory Song of the Sands. A place to rest is discovered by a new friend, Saki, the clean freak: Market Town. It is the central hub where each of the following chapters will make the team repeatedly revisit the area. The shop keepers in this chapter require your help, should you decide to help them - it's up to you!
By Hesufo

Chapter 4
It's time to play host at an upcoming party in the Inn of Market Town. There is however one problem - There's no wine! In this chapter you meet a new character Khuulmaar whose dream it is to become the most evil lord in history. Perhaps the so-called Eric the Silver Reaper can help him? Explore a house that was designed with a rather unique twist!
By Espon

Chapter 5
After successfully getting out of the Inverse Building - but with no luck getting wine because you destroyed it all) - you are welcomed to a hidden building in Market Town: the Mercenary's Guild! It's great here - you even get arrested for attending! Intrigue escalates between some of the guild's leaders, with a certain mysterious character from previous chapters seemingly playing a role in the drama. At the jail, you'll meet an evil guy, Jainko, whose dream is to be a good guy by swearing to never kill.
By Zetu

Chapter 6
Just before escaping the jail, a familiar face greets you. As a reward for beating this guy, you are cursed with "the ugly." Curing it is a must; maybe a song can cure it? Remember those? On your way out of the Jail, you'll pick up a beauty-obsessed character named Verdant.
By EvanG

Chapter 7
After finding what is supposedly the Memory Song of Water from a perky mercenary named Serena, the party is cured of their ugly looks and sets forth to find another relic: the Great Song of the Leaf. An intricate temple stands in the way! Is this related to the Memory Songs in some way? Meanwhile, the Shadowy Being also reveals some of his intentions. And Serena has a rather odd streak, too...
By LusterMX

Chapter 8
With the help of a certain member of the Mercenary's Guild, the party is back on their Song-fetching quest! Find the Song of Snow in Snowman's Land to the south. It's a land of Mystics that has been screwed over by a certain antagonist. You'll also meet two critical characters: a marginalized, mild mannered mystic named Eina; and...the character we've all been waiting to meet.
By Seacliff

Chapter 9
The Second Memory Song is finally in the party's grasp! Explore the swamps to the north, engage in an action-packed battle with an increasingly dangerous antagonist, and seize the Memory Song of Fire! But there's a storm brewing...
By Valkill101

Chapter 10
With two of the four Memory Songs in the party's grasp, pressure is starting to mount. Several characters are after the Songs: who can we trust? Seize the Song of the Tempest: combine it with the Song of Snow to make the True Memory Song of Water, and combine it with the Great Song of the Leaf to form the Memory Song of Wind. But to get the Song of the Tempest, you have to travel to the Island of the Tempest, which will require a special item buried under the Mercenary's Guild...
By Deckiller

Chapter 11
Everything converges on Tempest Island as the protagonists look for answers, while the antagonists look to seize the Songs for their own selfish desires. Things wrap up at breakneck pace as a long-lost character makes his triumphant return!

Glad to see you guys pulled it off in time! (You might want to add the proper tag to the topic title before Nessy sees this, though. ^.^)

Thanks for playing! I'm sure there will be another one in the near future (most likely to piggyback on the ending of the first one), and you're more than welcome to participate!

I'm finally getting around to playing the full RSW games and this has been really fun and charming. There's some minor bugs floating around, but great job everyone!

Nonsense, it just shows that our party is very agile. ;)

Speaking of which, one point you can skip part of the puzzle if you know what tile to move on. There is also some inconsistency on rock pushing mechanics between authors. Difficulty curve does not follow any kind of logic. We have enemies which die by few hits proceeding to enemies which have insane HP and after that it gets even better, enemies which once again can't really take hits but can take bit more than early ones, however their redeeming factor is their damage dishing potential.

It was nice to see Shadowy Being used as a villain which somehow onepoint changes name to "Shadow Being".

First off, enjoyed the game. Can't wait for the next one to come out.

Now, to the point. I felt the game was extremely easy once you got the Shadow Cleric dude. You can pretty much just spam Shadow Innoculation or w/e it is called and it basically full heals your party and buffs them. It also acts as a shield that you can build up to prevent damage, so your team basically comes out of all fights full HP. Not to mention what happens when you can get him to move twice a turn. Just thought I would mention it here for some feedback.

Yeah... I figured shadow infusion was OP sometime AFTER I had passed it on to the next person.  Then, when everyone is x2 on +ATK, +DEF, +MDF, and +MaxHP, he uses frenzy and deals 150% damage and doublestrikes with each turn.  :/

I never used anyone other than the first 4, so I'm not even sure what everyone else had ability wise.

The game was meant to be easy, so then once the next chapter comes out we can breeze through it and not have to worry about getting stuck so anyone can work on the next chapter... also keep in mind that the game was rushed at the end so we couldn't make the game harder after it was complete. (want proof? Check the dungeon that never made it into the game in the unencrypted copy) also, I will agree that Janiko, Serena, and Eina are all overpowered if used correctly.

Finally working actively on Tundra! I'd like to share my wife's WIP art for the starting map and a rough draft of one of the later characters, Katrina. She's very eager to hear any feedback you might have!1623790662347.png
Got my first vax today, arm is a bit numb, but nothing odd so far. :kaopride:

Looks a bit.....kid friendly. Then again, I suppose that does with with a lot of retro themes... Crap, already spotted a flaw xD
What a stupid week so far! I was really short on sleep yesterday thanks to my back hurting and not falling asleep fast enough, now today I am 2 hours late for work because my damn alarm clock changed from the alarm setting, to the radio setting which I always keep muted.
I introduced "booby trap" as another indirect way to fight supernatural threats in the game.
But, some of my players are using it to blow up random citizens on the street.
Not sure how "creative" they can go with it. :kaojoy:
