Reading through this forum has made me sad, since this forum implies that very few people are buying this pack.

I just got around to buying it, and omg I knew it was gonna be good, but the SSs do it no justice(It's not only better, It's a bigger package then you would suspect after reading the info on the site). There's a insane amount of battlers, 8, yes I said "8" Tilesets, like 68 faces, a metric ton of icons(I'm not gonna sit here, and count it, but there has to be atleast well over 200 icons alone), a new windowskin, a handful of new animations, ect.

This is easily one of the best resource packs out there(I was just hoping for 2-3 tilesets, a bunch of char sprites/faces, and a ton of battlers, talk about pleasantly surprised lol), and at 20 bucks It's a steal, so yea people so need to buy this pack.

I don't doubt the quality, I just haven't purchased it because I've not had a need.

Lol if people do realize it, I wouldn't be surprised if the project section was flooded Samurai/Japanese themed projects(I can so see that happening).

I'm probally gonna make a Inuyasha game(you know, a Inuyasha game that doesn't suck, such a great anime, and not even one quality game, tsk tsk tsk) at some point, but generally I'm gonna use it to give flavor to other regions, so everything doesn't look the same :)

This is my favorite resource pack, because of the huge stuff you get AND because it works so well with the standard rtp tiles. I would absolutely love more packs in this style.

Yea, the fact it doesn't clash with the RTP stuff(and it should go together well enough with a few other great resourse packs you can get from the site also). is a big plus, as it expands your resources opposed to just replacing them.

Yea I would love more resource packs like this as well.

That's interesting, because I had it in my head that it DID clash with RTP, which is a big part of why I hadn't bought it.  I didn't feel the need for it strongly enough to deal with it not meshing.  Interesting, very interesting...

Actually as far as faces go, they are exceedingly close in style, so they mesh well together if used in the same game. Battlers vary alittle though, some are a bit flashy(the bigger ones/aka bosses are um very colorful to say the least), while the others are similar in style with RTP, and ofcourse the Tilesets work together with the RTP tilesets(same exact art style)

well, they are a bit more defined that the RTP, but they still fit together, it's not really much of a difference

It is my favorite resource pack.

I do hope the music files that are in Japanese version get added to the English version, as the music files are great

I've been tying to work on translating the Japanese sample game so if is decided to be added to the English version some of it or all of it will be translated to easy the work load.

A lot of the database items in it are difficult to translate though.

The sample game has some additional graphics files in it and some scripts.

Keep in mind, the Samurai Pack came out long before this forum and the Ace editor. It was made primarily in the late cycle of the VX editor. Great discussions came up about this on old community sites, and I imagine that most who previously had VX also bought this pack.

Now that the store is chalk full of resources, this pack seems to have gone on the wayside. This could be for a variety of reasons:

1. The people who want it already have it, and new people aren't interested.

2. The store is chalk full of resources, and it's hard to pick and choose.

3. People are interested in genres of medieval and fantasy (regardless of the culture represented) and want newer genres: futuristic, modern.

4. People are interested in styles outside of the RTP, such as the High Fantasy set.

5. There could be the misconception that since this was made for VX, the style would not fit well with the current Ace RTP.

There is one other reason this may not be quite as popular as it should. From what I heard in previous discussions was that the English localization got the short end of the stick for this pack. If I'm not mistaken, the Japanese market received the resources, an rpg game that was made to show off these resources, and music within the game that could be used with these resources for other projects.

This is generally the most frustrating part of the consumer side of RM products (not just the Samurai Pack). We want to show the world that there is a large community outside of Japan, and yet we continually get short-sighted when it comes to RM products. We don't get English releases of the sample games made with the editors and the resources, we don't often get upgrades that have been made to the editors (even the current English Ace upgrade falls behind what's been recently released in Japan), and we can't even get legal versions of some of their older products, no matter how hard we ask.

EB is not interested in what we want, and Degica have their hands tied in what they can translate and sell to us.

Edit: My apologies Jay_NOLA - I missed your post, and so some of what I said echoes what you also said. And I stand by it completely. If we could get the pack in its entirety (music, resources, game) I have a strong hunch it would become quite popular again.

Oh didn't realize there was a older forum..

Well yea It's sadly out of the way, you have to scroll down a lot, and dig for it.

this is the story of our damn lives right here(although I don't know why people need to "translate" the music, music is music, unless they are vocals, but even then many people love Japanese vocals), just rip it from their Samurai copy, and toss it in ours), I don't know why in this day, and age the Japanese don't just translate/sub everything in English from the start, English is the official 2nd language of Japan for crying out loud(It's "required" learning in schools now), on top of that, most of their exports, go to NA.

Well, the music was made for the game, and you got the game as long as you owned the Japanese version of the resources. The game was never released alongside the English version of the resources, which left the music out. My guess is the game was made after the release of the resources, and then only included in the Japanese set.

I don't even know if it's possible to get a hold of this game unless you buy the Japanese version, which if I'm not mistaken comes packaged on a CD versus a digital download. I haven't seen the game uploaded anywhere, even in the Japanese language.

But you're right, as long as somebody has the game they can get the music. However, from what Jay says (I'm assuming he has the Japanese version?), there appears to be graphical resources released with the Japanese version that was never included with the English copy, so you want the game in order to get the rest of the resources that weren't provided in the English download. The question then becomes, how does somebody get ahold of a legal copy of the game (with or without an official translation) without having to jump through a crapton of hoops?

Even if Jay were to translate the game, I doubt he could release it (unencrypted) without knowing who legitimately purchased the Samurai set, else he risks being banned for providing a means of getting these resources for free to those who have not purchased the set. So he is stuck with either keeping it for himself or releasing an encrypted version to everybody (assuming that is allowed). In turn, those who did purchase the English version of the resources are still left without any means of getting the additional resources themselves unless they either buy the Japanese pack (to get the game) or figure out how to decrypt the translated version (if Jay releases it). Just don't ask how to decrypt it, because then you'd be banned, even if you did purchase the English resources.

See the catch 22 going on here?

The only way around this would be for Jay to release the translated version to Degica (unless Degica does this themselves) and then have Degica upload the new version (with the decrypted game) into the Client Area for people who already downloaded the pack, and to investigate claims for people who bought the pack elsewhere to see if they qualify for the game or not. However, Degica would need to be onboard with this. If they don't feel it's important enough to do, or that enough people are asking, they may decide it's not worth their time and effort.

Oh ok I see in now, the music was specifically made for the premade game huh, well that sucks

Oh that sucks, so we can't even rip-off the game, unti we find out what/grab the resources the game uses that we didn't get in the first place.

What a mess sigh.

The audio files in the Japanese version are in .oog & .wav formats and are part of the resource pack.

The Japanese version also has some reversed (mirror) version of some battlers

The sample game only uses some new audio files that are in .oog format.

The sample game does have some new battlers, face sets  (These are just variations of a few characters showing different facial expressions) , and sprites in it.   (These are not in the English version.)

When the pack was released in Japan some of the graphics had file name problems and you have to change the file names for some of them for them to work.  This was fixed in the English version.

The icons .png was fixed after the pack was released and the English version still needs the update.

The sample game had a patch for it that anyone can download.  You can get all the scripts used in the game from it.  (So don't have a problems making the scripts available for those that want to help translate since anyone can get them from the patch file and just about all of them have been posted on Japanese sites.  Some of the scripts also have more up to date versions that can be gotten from Japanese sites that I would like to update them to in the sample game as they fix some bugs.)

I have made some spread sheets with things needed to be translated if someone wants to help with translation.  See my blog for download links.

I can't make the game available as was pointed out if it does get translated.  I do plan to send the translation to support so it could get added to to English pack.

I also plan to include a word file of translation notes as some things are going to need a note or two to understand what they and to are like what  a Tenyo's Hagoromo is, character name notes, etc.

One huge problem is getting the text extracted from the game to translate it.  The game is big and has lots of texts and has 271 maps in it filled with events.

Wow 271 maps in the game. I was thinking this was some simple sample type game, with addional resources in it, not a full lengthed game, that's a big deal to not have localized/translated it. Now I understand why people were making such a big deal about the game that came with it, It's not just a few extra soundtracks that came with a sample game, It's a lot of extra resources that came with a full sized game.

Shame on the Japanese/Enterbrain for not translated it in the first place, the fact It's a full sized game only makes it all the more reason, it should've been translated(know how useful it would be to see how a premade game did a certain kind of event, that would be great, not to mention all the nice scripts such a game probally uses)

Thanks for the clarification Jay_NOLA. I have yet to buy this pack but have been debating for awhile. Now that I know what's missing, I think I'm going to hold off (based on principle) until EB and Degica decide to get together and do it the same justice for the English market.

I imagine a lot of people feel the same way, or will after they release this. I also imagine it would be a top seller if they could translate the game and release everything (including the audio) together. Hell, I'd buy this just for the game maps alone, which would give me ideas on how to design maps with these resources.

It's still a epic pack(granted if it had the stuff It's missing, it would make the DS/DS+ packs seem like utter POS, but even without the left out content, It's well worth getting). The tilesets alone are pretty much worth the price, and you get a ton of battlers(it truly is a lot), as well as a bunch of Faces/sprites as well.

I do hope Jay_NOLA manages to translate all that(I wish I knew Japanese, so I could help) though, that would be awesome.

I love the samurai pack also. Just wished the neko musume battler had a sprite. :3

I would attempt but my pixel art is terrible. XD Hopefully some random thread has it. *hint hint*

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
