Shalom, shalom!

I have finished creating the first demo of "The Tavern" - a dark fantasy roleplaying adventure. This demo includes the majority of first day of 3-day adventure and it's purpose is to discuss the overall value of the game with you.

My goal is to create a game which will be immersive like a visual novel, but at the same time interactive as an RPG.

Download the demo here!

Remember - you don't have to create a Dropbox account to download this file.

I wanted to create "real" conversations and avoid boring walking, empty areas or pointless battles.

It's not "the chosen one saves The World using magic crystals" kind of story.

Quite the opposite: the main plot starts minimalistic. Nalia - an ex-mercenary - is in dire need of gold. She goes to a tavern and bit by bit discovers the mysteries of this place, and more importantly - of people, who are around.

Exploring the demo will take you approximately 0,5-1 hour

Month ago I made an old video presentation. The demo is way, way more complex than the presented materials.

I will be happy to read even one sentence as a feedback, but if you would like to criticize me (or praise the demo) using more sophisticated tools, I've made a useful questionnaire to help you with that.

It would make my day if some of you would give this game a shot. : )

Is it possible to win the battle.  I thought I did and I got the dying message anyway.

I chose - fight him, use sword, arms - tire it out and attack the tree.  It said that the treant died and the monster was badly hurt than I got the standard death message despite thinking I was only slightly injured.

The decissions were correct

(good job! I actually assumed noone will be able  to just chose all the "right" paths blindly, since the additional help and information will be shown later on) but the general idea is that if you are not prepared - you can't win. There IS still way to win this fight in the demo, but you have to do something first (and avoid doing some other things) to make Nalia healthier and stronger.

How about the rest of the game? : )

I might start fresh see if I can fix what I did wrong.  I had a feeling I shouldn't have bought beer.

I liked the rest of it and filled out the survey.  Grammar and spellings are off in places but its something I'm sure you could get a tester to sort out for you.  I imagine english isn't your first language (it is mine and I'm still terrible at it.)  Loved the conversations with the other characters and the conversations

with the unknown client and overheard from the window were well done had me curious to the upstairs.

Mapping was good and I loved the fact you could click on almost everything.

I think larger sprites option you posted in survey would be excellent.  I'm not running promo for him but the ones by or like PV games with a grittier and more realistic look would be great for such a dark toned game though the current ones wouldn't put me off at all.

Sounds were good to, nice and subtle and atmospheric.

I love the theme. I love the premise. Too bad I can't play farther because it's slow and lag like crazy. It's the same issues with all MV games. A lot of people still using computers before 2010. If we put some light or other effects in sometime it's unplayable.

He mad, but he cute :kaopride:

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
