The question of the ages:

Which series is better. Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy?

Dragon Quest is a very polished RPG but plays it too safe, FF experiments more. My favorite DQ games are the wacky spinoffs like Rocket Slime and Builders.

No hate, different styles for everyone, but...while I don't like every Final Fantasy, I haven't liked any Dragon Quest well enough to complete.

Admittedly, I’m biased because I have played several FF games but only 1 DQ game (which I didn’t finish).
Perhaps I’ll rectify that some day.

Definitely Final Fantasy. FF game just have more depth & gameplay, especially FF7 & FFX. Every time I played FFX, I 100% that game, including maxing everyone's Luck stat, which requires DAYS of Monster Arena grinding, and I've done this on 3 different files. DQ has never made a game nearly as long or in depth. DQ8 comes close, but there's just more to do in FFX.

I dunno but I hated playing FF13. I mean, it was like all I could do was waiting for the giant cactus to show up to see if I could slay it or get stuck with a certain boss... Or I never liked Lightning? Who knows.

Never heard or seen much of Dragon Quest that really grabbed me. And also I just personally don't vibe with Akira Toriyama's art style, while I can always get behind generic anime pretty boys TM.

FF, but the online one... some of my favorite secondary characters are in this one.

Simply when I think about what series has stolen more of my time, it’s definitely still FF. I don’t love all of them, but I’ve finished all of them. I’ve also sunk so many hours into a ton of the more spin-off-y stuff too like Crystal Chronicles. I’ve logged a disturbing amount of hours into that one.

I’ve replayed IX and X the absolute most. Got pretty deep into online with XI and XIV.
I’m more than positive it’s blasphemous to some, but I’ve never replayed a Dragon Quest and there’s plenty I didn’t finish.

I'd have to say that Dragon Quest has Final Fantasy beat in modern times, but nothing competes with Final Fantasy 9, which is the gold standard in my opinion.

Same... XD

Final Fantasy varies more through the ages, but Dragon Quest is also great (except for the HUD lol).

I mean one look at the first page of the script and/or plugin section of this forum for any version of rpgmaker will pretty much answer this poll for you without anyone having to participate, heck the completed games section could do the same.

That said, while I like all dragon quest games more than 99% of final fantasy, final fantasy tactics is a thing and it alone pretty much blows everything else out of the water. So much wasted childhood, and adulthood for that matter.

Though I guess it is also technically not an rpg so...eh dragon quest needs more love, I'm changing my vote. Yeah its a simple formula but I'm too old to spend half my time playing a new game in a guidebook making sure that every random chest I might come across isn't going to lock me out of endgame treasure if I open it or that the next four stage battle with no recuperation inbetween isn't going to end with a guy who mass petrifies the party even though he's literally the first enemy to have petrify in the game so that if you didn't stock up on petrify cures before and saved at any point leading up to it you've effectively softlocked yourself 2/3s of the way through a 50+ hour game or(insert other absurd min/max FF trope here, because there's a lot of them) something and have to start all over again. You don't really have to worry about any of that in dragon quest. I'm just saying.

Dragon Quest invented the wheel. DQ1 was the first and quintessential JRPG, heavily influencing the development of not only FF1 but every other early JRPG. The DQ series as a whole symbiosed with later entries of FF and the two franchises evolved together and played off each other mechanically and artistically. And just go read about the history of Dragon Quest and EarthBound.

I knew about Final Fantasy long before I ever heard of Dragon Quest. FFX was one of the first RPGs I ever seriously played, and to this day is my favorite JRPG. But once I learned about the influence of Dragon Quest, I resolved to play at least a few of them, and I exhort everyone interested in RPGs and their development to do like I did. It was a good experience.

You can't have FF without DQ, but we did, for a short time, have DQ without FF. So, even though I like Final Fantasy better on a personal level, I have to give it to Dragon Quest.

in my record, i beat FF5 & 6, 2 or more (i think) in GBA version (Emulator 'course)

i use FF series as my Research for my Project back then (i remember FF5 Spellblade is my fav Abilities (especially Drain Spellblade), managed to recreate it back then)

i fond with Numerical Series (except 11 & 14, 'cause it's online & doesn't know how to play them) rather than the Spin-Offs, i just tried it & not really interested

i never played a single DQ in my life before (though i remember i have DQ7, accidently), but i tried to play them, if i have to

Yanka is one of my dearly loved characters. And not only because she can perform the look of "puss in boots")))) Spy, infiltrator, kind-hearted with a soft spot for one Crimson Knight.
Just completed another cutscene. Huge one for the story. I'm so enthusiastic about where this game is going.
Man, the enemies in the new Sonic Frontiers update are totally roided up. I wanted a little more difficulty myself, but Sonic Team turned the dial a bit too far.

At least the new tracks for roaming Ouranos Island as Amy, Knuckles, and Tails slap hard.

This battle victory screen has been pretty fun to work on. Not only can party members set new personal records for their contributions to the fight, but when they do, the party remarks on the accomplishment!
