    Dialogue System

The next interface element to get a massive overhaul is the dialogue system. It features message windows that appear above the heads of characters (or below them, if the window were to overlap the player), as well as stylized face graphics and nameplates. Have a look:

The next thing I'll work on is the items and equipment system, which means potentially less interesting visual stuff for a little while.

It's been a while! Development is proceeding pretty smoothly, and I've started getting back to more exciting things that I can show off, like the Noticeboard. Here's a super sneaky peek (that means early peek) of the Noticeboard ingame:

I'll have more details and delicious footage to share over the next couple of days~

How are you able to support Mac version?

I'm curious as porting my game to other platforms sounds like a bright idea.

I used WineSkin (http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com/tiki-index.php) to wrap the exe in a self-contained Windows environment (Open-source and all legal, of course) so that it can be run on both linux systems and Mac OSX. There is almost no performance hit on any decently modern system either. As a stress-test, I tested it on a MacBook Pro 2011 system using only the internal Intel display chip, no dedicated GPU, and it ran perfectly fine.

I would need someone who has Mac to use it. Prospect of selling for wider audience is tempting.

Here's a little sneaky peek at progress on the visualization of combat and restructuring and display of stats:

Been working on the battle scene some more. When stats change in battle, like health or attack, the interface will update and animate the changes. Still a bit rough and will get lots of polish, but you can see the concept in motion now:

Super Progress Update Fun Time Banzai!!!

Time for another progress update, I believe! I sort of assume most of you might have seen some of this already in the Game & Map Screenshots thread, but even for those that have there should be something new here. The following demonstrates the seamless mouse / keyboard / controller (and any combo thereof) that the game's interface now supports. The mouse cursor is hidden automagically if you use the keyboard or controller, and shown again when moved. Button hints pop up if you use the controller or keyboard, but hide if you use the mouse. Have a look-see!

Great, your demo is very frustrating for someone not so advanced in scripting ;-)

    Very nice!

I like your way of design things :D

But I have one question though. What happens if you collect so many items at once, that there is not enough space to show them all at once? Would there be a second row on the left side of the screen? Did you script something else for that case or how do you handle it, if this situation occurs? Just curios :)

@Raider:Thank you! I'm actually working on that now, so that if the max number of visible items is displayed, it'll push the old ones upwards to make room for new ones :)

    Grid inventory system, oh my!

The inventory system in the remake of The Vendor takes the size of items into consideration. This is to add a strategic depth to the game, and while you start with a tiny inventory in the form of a backpack, you can upgrade it and get more space in different arrangements. To show you how I'm designing this, take a look at this prototype (fully functional and in the game, but not finished):

I probably should make a new thread for the development of the remastered version of the game, since the videos I show of development do not portray what you'll find in the contest version on the first page :)

I've been using this thread to keep followers of the game up-to-date on the commercial developments of the game, but I wonder if that might seem a bit misleading for newcomers?

Maybe closing the Topic and make a new one and put a link to the new here? It can be done?

Have you already included all those new features/remastering in the latest download?

Nope, that's why this thread is a bit misleading now out of context of text many pages back; the changes that are posted are for the remastered commercial release. I'll get this fixed and clarified very soon with a new topic for the development of the remastered game :)
