For those unaware, Game Jams are where developers work to develop a game within a 48 hour time limit.

I'm curious...is it feasible for Artists / Musicians to take the same challenge?

I had this idea of setting up a Jam where an artist, a musician, and a game developer, would work to create something together.  Not only would it help build up a multimedia portfolio of your work, but also help establish good, firm contacts with people in the industry.

I was wondering, not only if it's possible for an artist/musician to do their respective work within that time period, but also if there'd be any interest in this sort of thing as a whole.  :>

Curiosity killed the cat.  Good thing I'm not a cat.

And, if 48 hours seems like too much of a hectic time period to set up three strangers together to make something- would a week be better?

It's definitely possible to make a music track within 48 hours.

Not a very good one. But it is possible.

But because we're so used to having music end up being so polished and exquisite as opposed to games just being a massacred, butchered mess, it wouldn't be a good idea to make this kind of event.

Some of the people here aren't that interested in the work they do and they just do it either as a hobby or as a pastime. That's why normally it takes them so long to get out something good as opposed to making something quick to appeal to the masses.

Yes it is for Artists, depending on the material to produce.  Pixel, drawn, sketch, etc.  We use to have Art challenges on a weekly basis.

The thing is, though, do you want it done? Or do you want it to be good? It might be possible to do a sketch of something in a week, but to have full detail, full polish, full aesthetics in a piece of art? Unless you pulled two consecutive all-nighters, I don't think it would really be that possible.

I can quite regularly finish music pieces in less than 48 hours.

True, if I only have a couple hours a day to dedicate to my music, it takes longer than two days. But it's full sail ahead, two days is plenty.

However, I do find that we have enough events of this nature. But, I wonder if Weekly Art Challenge will start up again or it Tomb of the Lost Art has taken over.

I think though, that the purpose of the jam isn't to have something complete and polished-  well, to some extent.  You aren't going to dish out the best of the best in 48 hours, no.  But the point is to utilize that time and see how far you can develop your piece in that time period while following the theme the jam is about.  It's where artists can afford to be experimental and try new things- if they like the result, they can that knowledge in future pieces.

Even the term 'Jam' itself derives from the musical act of producing music with no preparation in order to create new material.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
