I'll start: the rebooted Star Trek films.
Anyone else?
Edit: While they're very entertaining, with good art direction, and flawless performances by Karl Urban and Zachary Quinto as Bones and Spock, respectively, and it is nice to see an Uhura who isn't a flat character, and the music is awesome (when it isn't the same tune over and over) it just feels wrong in the way that Kingdom of the Crystal Skull felt wrong. Chris Pine is not Kirk (although he does have his moments, they're way too few and far in-between), and the overall tone is less about exploration and hope for a brighter future and more about mindless action and conflict. And the Enterprise never has a consistent scale. And the Cadet to Captain nonsense at the end of the first one. And how Scotty has been reduced from a shrewd negotiator, competent lone operator, and brilliant engineer to a fricking clown. It's too dark and angsty, when it shouldn't be. Star Trek and Star Wars can be compared to each other in the ways Batman and Superman can be compared: Batman is dark and angsty. Superman is about hope. Star Wars is about conflict and overcoming odds. Star Trek is supposed to be about a bright, hopeful, nigh-utopian future. Something to look forward to in these dark times.
