Well, looks like my computer has decided to start misbehaving in a very bad way...again...

Since my computer has decided to go ahead and screw up all my installed STANDARD audio drivers, enjoying RM, creation and play is off the table.

As well as anything else I do with my computer.
I am most displeased with this, but it calls for me to take my leave, and it may be permanent, depending on if I can get this crap sorted out within a decent period of time (like I'd give this a week tops in reality).

I'll have to give Rift Chronicles back to my friend, and hope she can do something with it (though I doubt it).

Ah well...I knew this would happen to me again someday, sad it had to be now.

So...it's been fun. I hope you all will continue to thrive without me, even though I contributed very little.

Usually you can restore stuff like audio drivers by removing and reinstalling them - take note of which drivers they were before removing them, so you can find them online and download them again. Sometimes PC manufacturers have a help desk that you can call (look all over your hard drive or laptop or box for a sticker that has your computer's manufacturing ID/tag number, etc.), and they can help you through this process, even if you're out of warranty.

In the meantime, I wonder if sound would work okay if you use headphones rather than your computer's normal speakers? I'm not sure how technicals like drivers really work.

In the very worst case scenario, it gives you a good reason to upgrade to a shiny new PC, since you were working with a fairly low-spec computer anyhow.

Oh yeah, a long needed upgrade! Yup, and I've got money in spades to do it! (Except I really don't.)

No. No sound driver means headphones/speakers don't work at all.

I've been doing this whole driver install/uninstall crap since restarting.

I'll probably end up taking the HDD and slaving it in a new computer when I get one in five to ten years. I'm serious; it'll take me that long with my salary all gone to bills and my debts every bloody month.

Oh well.

huh , it worked for me when my soundcard was busted a while back . maybe try running as admin? or try the compatibility thingy you can do with most exe files

@TomatoKing I would do that, however, I have a TON of files I absolutely do NOT want to lose, nor would I be able to recover 90+ percent of them once I did the reinstall.

So, the first thing to do would be to get a secondary internal/external HDD, then once all my much needed files are transferred, THEN I can do the fresh install.

All in all, this requires money, money I do NOT have at the moment.

Now I have to find a way to plug the laptop's drive on the workstation and how to take ownership of user folders since I had everything on the desktop because I'm a moron (you can't access windows 'user' folders when you plug a drive as secondary).

huh , weird. why when i plugged in my HDD to my brothers toshiba satellite. i could access all my files immediately? from desktop folders etc. though , theres probably something i didn't understand about your situation.

@SwaGGy he probably didn't have his user password protected or the files where on public folders.

Windows file protection would be pointless if all you had to do to bypass it was just pluging the drive to another computer, computers don't come with keys https://cdn.instructables.com/FJG/HLAD/H18FJU5E/FJGHLADH18FJU5E.MEDIUM.jpg anymore for a reason.
