i want to know if this idea is interesting and if it would be offensive

a spirit animal attack were the caster invokes the spirit animal of another actor which attacks and boosts the actors deffenses. the effect of the skill would vary depending on the actor targeted

im wondering if its offensive because in native american culture a spirit animal protects the person

As long as you aren't using a lot of blatant stereotyping, it should be fine. A lot of games have references to Greek and Norse mythology and the Bible, so it should be okay.

Spirit Animals aren't unique to Native American culture so they can't really be upset unless you use lot of specific tribal imagery in the graphics or have a very offensive stereotype of a character casting it.

That said, were you looking for actual feedback on the mechanic or just if it would get you in trouble for a commercial project?

feedback. How would you, as a player, view it? (or any other lens you want to view it through)

I for one would be extremely offended by this.

Nah, just kidding - this sounds like a good idea for a skill or set of skills.

Although, from an implementation standpoint, it sounds like the player would need to select two sequential targets - first the "other actor" to invoke the spirit animal of, then the target of the action's effect (unless it affects a pre-designated target such as "all enemies").  That would require some non-trivial coding to make work.

i thought using a conditinal branch and common event would do the trick. I think theres even a condition that checks for party members (although it would be a large event)

then select the actor from the list then the target (unless it is random or hits all enemies)

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
