I was making an infographic to explain the layers of mapping.

(Celianna made a great one but Google has failed me!)

And as I was pondering how much of the intricacies of the tileA hoohah to include, I decided to peruse the help file. Stuff like this is why no one goes there first. What the blooming heck does this mean?

Part C doesn't have any eight tiles. (um, it is only 64 by 64) Not unless you are talking about tiles parts, like the 16 by 16 corners and the 16 by 32 sides and top and bottom. Who writes this stuff??

And would it be fair to assume that the "4,4 position from the lower right" means that if you stick a four by four transparent square in the lower right corner of a tile it signals the bush attribute?

And why are forest type autotiles excluded? Do they just mean the ones in A2???

It does have 8 tiles, although they are overlapping each other. So you have the 4 corner and 4 sides, each being 32x32.

/edit: At least that would be my understanding.

/me has a lightbulb moment

But wait, then the center tile would have to be tileable at the halfway point, right?

People read the helpfile for this? That stuff is utterly confusing (especially since you assign bush tiles inside of the editor, not graphic-wise).

Here's my quick go-to autotile explanation:

Corners: 16x16 tiles, they are static, and connect to the sides.

Sides: these are 32x16 or 16x32 tiles, and are seamless so that they can repeat horizontally and vertically, and of course connect to the corners.

Middle: 32x32 seamless tile, repeatable.

Ah, okay, so i was at least partially correct :D

Though i found the helpfile to be kinda helpful, at least for everything script-related.

Thank so much! I'm glad it's not just me. ^_^

You wouldn't have that infographic about layers in mapping hanging around would you?

I personally used the Help File for working out how to make Events etc.. but I found the Script section to be confusing, so I got other peoples scripts and studied them, which seems to work quite well.

TileA technically has two layers, since you can paint the second half of A2 over everything else in TileA as such :

Not to mention shift-click mapping, which is not another layer but you can get creative with it.

  • Parallax
  • TileA
  • TileA (A2 Overlap Tiles)
  • TileB-E
  • Event
  • Pictures

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
Yay, now back in action Happy Christmas time, coming back!

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
