hi. i bought rpg maker xp via steam because it was on sale.
first of all: im totally a beginner with this kind of stuff. so i dont know if my following problem is a bug... or if i have to set it up somehow.

here is my problem: i open rpg maker xp and when i start new project, the screen is filled with green gras. thats probably the beginning screen. so... now i mark with left mouse click the tiles i want to place (for example a big tree) so i mark every tree tile and place a big tree. but the problem is: the background of the tree is white. so... the green grass around the tree is overwirtten by a white, scare background. what i mean is... its no transparent. i want the tree to be placed on the green gras ground.

do i have to set up something? my transparent colour is standard. i didnt change any settings, i started the software the first time just some min ago.

and when i test the game, ingame the background colour of the tree is black.

how to fix this problem?

Yeah, it threw me off too, especially after having used VX/Ace. But the three layer system is nice once you’ve gotten used to it.

The background of your trees should not be white. It should be transparent. When you place it on the correct layer (not the grass layer), the grass should still be visible behind it.

@Shaz It's because he tried to put the tree on the ground layer. When you do that, yes it shows with a white background. If you move to the second layer, it does not.

It's not that the tree has a white background, but that the transparent baclground of tree overwrites the ground layer. And in XP, it shows as a white layer when there is no ground layer.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
time for a new avatar :)
