So to start off I don't know if this thread fits here.
Anyways I have been working on a custom MV tile set and a problem came up that I can't fix.
As you can see below I made some trees yet when adding more it erases the ones behind them.
I don't know if I'm overlooking something or if this is a common thing. If you can help, Thank you.

Does the original sprite sheet show the top of the treetile as transparent? If it has the green grass, it's going to overwrite it.

It's not a tileset error. You're just trying to go beyond the 2-upper-layer limits. You can only stack two layers of B-E tiles. After that, each time you add a new layer, it removes the bottom-most one.

So if each of those trees is an individual group of tiles, you have one layer for the trees at the back, one layer for the trees in the middle, and when you go to place the bottom trees, you are forcing the bottom-most layer of the original trees to be removed. On the particular tiles you're having trouble with, the first layer is the trunk from the top row of trees. The second layer is the edge of the middle row of trees. And the third layer is the tip of the bottom row of trees. In order to add the third layer, it moves the second layer down and discards the first layer.

If you want to make trees like this, you actually need to create the overlapping tree sprites within your tileset. I think MV has some of these by default - it's simply the full tree at the front, and then the full tree, split horizontally and vertically, with each section moved to the opposite corner, at the back. Then you just take the sections that you want, based on what trees are surrounding it.

So I'm hitting the limit of it. Do you know if there is a plug in or something that can fix it?
Most of my other objects are around the same size or a little smaller.

The only real way around it, either with default or plugins:

  1. Edit the graphics in the tileset you have to have trees overlapping the way you are trying to have it show in that screenshot as a section in the tileset.
  2. If that's not an option, create the map as a parallax map and use a layers plugin. Plenty to choose from, but you'd still have to edit graphics. This one can cause lag is you overuse parallax mapping too much.
  3. Use the Tiled Plugin and editor. Make as many layers as you want, but still requires editing of tiles to fit the Tiled format for tilesets.
There's really no way around it since MV doesn't have unlimited layers. Plugins only work to change things during runtime instead of changing how the editor itself works. You can use one of those three methods to fix your issue, but all will involve extra work. The first option is technically the least amount of work if your tilesets are already formatted for use in MV. You'd just need to create the overlapping tree parts and then use them in the editor properly.

I've moved this thread to Resource Support. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

The tilesheet Outside_B has a good example of how to do this.

I've shown below the steps needed to go from a single tree to a group of repeating trees. I use Gimp and set the "snap to grid" feature. It's really handy. I'm not sure the size of your tree, so you may need to adjust a bit, but hopefully this will give you the idea of it.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
