Title Pending!

SECTION A: SYNOPSIS

  • Title Pending! It is a story-rich dungeon crawler about a man who always wanted to be a great hero and earn his unique title in the adventure community, who ends up having his dream turn to ash before it can even begin. You guide him through the aftermath of a traumatic event where his hero agrees to train him only to decide he isn't worthy and leaves you for dead after a botched boss fight. You end up following a voice in your head that guides you to safety, leading you to a hidden room no one has been in for ages. While dying slowly, you end up drinking an unknown potion in hopes of saving your life in hopes of giving you enough mana to activate an old teleportation stone in the room.

It works, but at a high cost; the potion is a remnant of civilizations past, a drink outlawed by the current kingdom and its church. Its meant to give the drinker the ability to see and talk to the spirits or gods and is reserved only for shamans of old. In a nutshell, it's a mana potion so potent that if you don't die from the overdose, you get magically more powerful, but the church's stance on it also breaks your mind and makes you crazy as to why you can see spirits they say don't exist.

    Struggle:
You will struggle after the prologue both physically as you fight monsters on your adventure and as you struggle with Zed, who claims to be the voice who guided you. You are convinced it was you noticing things and your brain telling you in near-death moments the things you noticed out of place before the boss fight. But Zed, who only you can hear and now see, claims he is a demi-god of old, and like it or not, you are stuck with him, as his only disciple in almost a thousand years.

    Grow:
Deal with everyday issues as you try to survive after your trauma. Find work to keep a roof over your head, and decide will you go at it alone or seek help from others. Will you give in to your depression from your ill-gotten luck, accept it as fate, or fight against it with Zed's support and the help of others you meet along the way.

    Be True to Your Self:
Will you take the chance to reclaim your childhood dream or let reality jade you? Are you the type to fight against his demons or give into them? Every choice in the game builds to one of many endings based on how you dealt with your trauma. Will you save the day but only for selfish reasons and live out the rest of your days in self-exile as a hermit? Or will you find love and friendship even with your 'conditions' once this is over?

SECTION B: CHARACTERS

  • Jed: (MC; Name changes with user input after the prologue) He Starts excited and is on his first real dungeon adventure with Bruce the Mighty, the newest up-and-coming hero from the adventure and poster boy for the guild. He trained as a boy for this shot but never got accepted into a party till now. He wins a chance of a lifetime to be a trainee of Bruce. Later his hero turns out to be not the man he claims to be on the posters; he declares Jed a failure and isn't ready to be his trainee and tells you how he will tell people back home how you died running off on your own as a warning to others that that life is not for everyone, before leaving you for dead after deciding to test you and let you fight the first boss in the trial dungeon he picked solo.
Bruce the Mighty: The new poster boy. They had wood prints at local adventure guild offices throughout the kingdom. He is the latest hero to come up from their ranks, says what a hero should say, does events for the public on guilds' behalf. Overall just a powerful man who loves the limelight. His unofficial motto is "what happens in a dungeon stays in the dungeon." While loved and respected for his work outside the dungeon, he is also a great fighter and can reach the deepest depths of many a dungeon, but he is ruthless inside and has no time for the weak; once he is inside the lower portions, he isn't the same man as near the surface.

Bruce is only in Prologue, but his poster(s) can be found all over the kingdom, and his name and legend are known all over. So the player will have to be reminded of his "greatness" no matter where he goes, and of course, no one would believe he would be as cruel as he was to the MC in the prologue. So a constant antagonist of sorts to the player is a reminder of what's wrong with the world sometimes.
Kipp: A puckish rogue, currently Bruce's only official party member. She is a full-born elf, and young for an elf older than most humans alive in the kingdom, in theory, can live for centuries with a bit of luck. She doesn't hide behind any claims to be a hero or a great person. People love her for her naughty ways and sense of humor. She tells everyone she is only following Bruce as it's fun for the time being and a good challenge for her combat skills. Blatantly admits to only part of the guild because it's the only way she can test her combat skills without being a criminal. No one cares if she destroys monsters in a dungeon that magically respawns, and often the dungeons are more complex than most things you can find outside of them.

She will have a cameo after the Prologue, later visiting the inn, and is one who finds the hero later after they teleport to the entrance while passing out. She also pays for you to disappear, as you are already written off as dead and a failure by Bruce, and the public accepted it before you woke up, plus the shaman potion has tainted you to the point that you will have you imprisoned or killed for heresy. So you can never take off your armor without fear of being persecuted and never use your old name again.

SECTION D: SETTING AND WORLD DEVELOPMENT

  • It takes place in Kingdom Lorem Ipsum (yes, pain itself, the rough translation from Latin picked on purpose,) which is in a world where magic exists like most RPG classics. In this one, ancient dungeons taught the land made by unknown people or entities, and in recent for the kingdom, at least last 100 or so years, they started discovering these dungeons and exploiting them. The creatures, some minerals, and plants are constantly replenished by magic beyond their comprehension. So they did what any capitalists would do and started an adventure guild after losing troops to it, to pay volunteers to clear them for them, collect the resources, and tax everything that came out of it.

This is how the kingdom got its wealth, and their church, only roughly a century old, also cashed in this. It used these dungeons and monsters within it to help it gain more control and the unexplained surrounding it to help cement itself into the local culture of the booming Kingdom. Using things they find to declare religions of old dangerous, or stating some of the dungeons are gifts from God or a punishment.

The bulk of the story after the prologue all takes place in one old town with one of the weaker dungeons people found early on. It has been overrun with spillage from the local dungeon, which was the reason for the town's first boom in the first place a few generations before. The plater is only supposed to be passing through and gets ambushed by wolves who come from within the first floors of the dungeon, who recently started going out and attacking and stealing food from the outskirts of town, much to everyone's surprise. After being cast into exile, the player is forced to fight wolves even though he barely has a will to fight anymore. Then finds himself trapped in the town.

The town has its problems but not enough to get support from the local government, which sees it as a nuisance than a crisis. The city has fallen on dark days as a lack of interest in the dungeon, and its distance from the booming parts of the kingdom around the most profitable and dangerous dungeons have made it a town on the verge of collapse. But something is off in their jail, but with no adventures in the region, all the would-be ones have left to seek fortune and fame elsewhere; no one knows what is causing the creatures from the upper floors to venture out and bother the townsfolk.

Unfortunately, no demo yet. But it has a steam page with h Coming Soon status up, and I plan to complete this project. Title Pending Steam link

No offense, but I would really work on fixing that engrish. The poor grammar of this post alone makes me not even want to touch it.

I did a once-over and fixed a ton of errors, and I was expecting a three day review process like it said to be honest...

Fun question - how do you manage the scope of your projects? All of my projects seem to balloon until they pop and they are suddenly nonexistent!
