I'm trying to puzzle out what the game To the Moon is doing with its full screen graphics. I counted out the 32x32 squares in the game and created a map with borders. That's on the left in the screen shot below. On the right is a screen grab from TTM. Clearly, TTM is doing something to make the visible area look smaller than what they should be. But what? Are they using some type of black fog to hide part of the screen from the player? How are they achieving that effect?

I'm not talking about what is visible but what is invisible. Compare the two screen captures. There should be more visible space in TTM than what the player is actually seeing. Is this some type of fog? A parallax technique? Or are they doing something with the graphic settings?

it's just some gradient picture on top that you can achieve with either the soft brush tool or gradient tool with a transparent end.

In photoshop and then use it as an overlay with a script like Yami's overlay engine?

Yes, most probably - theoretically you could make such overlays with events and picture commands, but with scripts it's usually more fluent and less work to implement.

There are several alternative scripts for parallax mapping - you can look them up on the master script list.

The difference between those scripts are compatibility with other scripts and what other options they add to your game - for example some of the parallax scripts allow you to use multiple overlays for special effects, others are more compatible because they give only basic options.

Yeah, it is the compatibility question I am curious about. I've toyed with Yami's overlay engine and got it to work with my maps. I didn't see an option to lock the layers to the character in Yami's script. So what script is compatible with that Yami's to lock the lighting layer?

Archeia gets the cookie. The 640x480 picture is shown using the Show Picture event command.

*hugs*

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
