Hi! I would like to ask if we can create TOWER DEFENSE with RPG Makers and which RPG Maker is capable of? Thanks a lot for your information.

Theoretically yes, but practically it would be a lot of work.

The Engine is more or less (depending on which maker) available for modifications - that's what the scripts and plugins are for.

But the default engine is also targeted at RPGs with Battlescreens, not on-map-battles, which means the events have no default data for damage etc.

That is possible to implement (as proven by the scripts for Action-Battle-Systems on the map that are available), but those scripts took the community-programmers months or years to write.

Honestly, if you yourself don't know who to write scripts/plugins (Ruby/javascript depending on the engine) or don't know somebody who does or you don't have the funds to hire/pay for somebody to make the required scripts I would honestly go with either a different game concept or different engine (I don't know of any that are non-programmer friendly that can make a tower defense type game off of memory though).

RPG Maker MV would definitely be your best bet for making a Tower Defense game, because of its native Mouse control and ability to export to popular mediums for Tower Defense (such as web browser and mobile).  However, if you are willing to learn code, there are more efficient programs for making a Tower Defense game, such as Unreal Engine, Unity, or Game Maker, which have advantages such as being able to spawn any number of instances of an enemy or to quickly change an UI overlay.

So I mean, a Tower Defense game like you see in Flash all the time would be one thing, but there could be more RPG-like ways to handle.  There were a couple times in Final Fantasy 6 where you are essentially playing tower defense by positioning groups to block incoming enemies.

Found a video of that:

Something like that would make more sense for using RPGMaker and could possibly be handled with Events rather than scripting.  The catch is, to do it like FF6 here, you can't just check if two events are touching, you would need to make custom variables or something.

If you were to follow up the suggestion above, you could do it in Ace using Tsukihime's script enabling split parties.  I don't know if there is yet an equivalent for MV.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
