Hi strange topic, but, I've been considering having some Active Battle System segments in the game I am working on with traditional transition to a combat scene style combat as the norm. Basically, I just want to keep some fun (hopefully) mini-game'esque segments tossed into my gameplay and I realize fun for somebody isn't fun for everybody..
So to keep this from being about "my" game, I'd like to know if anyone has played games like this, and what were your thoughts on those mechanics? Did they do a reasonable job of keeping the gameplay from being stale and boring? Did you enjoy being able to see your characters fight in a different way than usual? Were there any pitfalls and enjoyment sappers associated with this idea? Did it just flat out suck? Did one game do it "right" and another game totally fail on the execution? Please, just share your thoughts, and don't be afraid to be quite in depth with your response, please share what games you've played that might have had this in it, and thanks for stopping by.
