Transparent means invisible. So turning it ON makes the character invisible. Turning it OFF makes them visible (or not transparent).
The issue with the two sprites was mentioned in the opening post - because the player is NOT transparent, you can see the player sprite AND the event sprite (which I assume is meant to represent the player). The PC is the guy with the cloak, not the little pig-man thing.
