I'm trying to upload and use a PNG image as an over world map. Is there a way to do that?

What I mean is, when the player exits their home, I want the map to pop up. Then, using the mouse cursor - not sprite- they select their next destination. After they select it, the player is brought to a new map. A friend of mine drew the over world map, so I was hoping to use it.

I've been combing the internet, but I've only found how to upload personal images to the title screen, which isn't what I want.

Secondly, I just want to make sure I'm doing this right. When the over world map pops up, I want the player to be invisible. I went into database >> actor >> selected "none". This way, you can use your mouse instead of the player to trigger the event. I hope I did that correctly?

1) what you're trying to do is called "parallax mapping" in this community. Search this forum, you'll find several tutorials on it because there are several ways how to handle this.

2) completely wrong.
Do not remove the actors, but use the event command for transparency on, that makes your party invisible. Just make sure the invisible actor can go everywhere, and perhaps increase its speed to max.

Wouldn't another way to do this to be to set the image of the map as the background and change the character to an image of a cursor?

then just put transfers on the spot where you want to on the screen , change the character back in the transfer event and you re all set.

I'd say @GrandmaDeb has a point there. It'd be much more pleasing aesthetically.
As for changing the map to a picture, I'd say watch this tutorial. It's cheesy, but it actually helped me understand parallax mapping. And the Orange Overlay plugin is much better than BindPicturesToMap which I see people often use.

Concerning the overlay plugin, kaus was banned for art theft and credit theft so that specific plugin is no longer developed here, but orange overlay is a compatible replacement.

@Andar Sorry, I actually meant Orange Overlay. That's what I'm using atm. My bad! I'll edit the post.
But the video explains it so that it works with Orange too.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
