RPG Maker Forums

I decided to finally make a thread for my first game: Uinua. There is still a lot of work to do and the demo will most definitely take a while to come, but if I have the thread open I feel like I will be more productive :D The logo is most definitely provisional.

An adventure game that pays homage to fairy tales and folk stories from around the world. A kind of serious story sprinkled with my dorky sense of humor that deals with self-reflection, ideal morals, the concept of love and finding your place in the world.

Rating: PG-13

Warnings: while this game is not violent in itself, due to the nature of fairy tales there are some serious topics discussed on the story that could be triggering for some people. Proceed with caution (It sounds worse than it really is, but it's better to be safe than sorry).

Incest, implied adultery, suicidal thoughts, minor character death, unhealthy grief dealing, arranged marriages, kidnappings, alcohol consuming and depression.

In a world in which magic exists and fairy tales are real tales from the past, a young prince named Leonard (Leo) finds himself in a bit of a predicament: he has grown up reading those stories and worshipping the concept of being an ideal prince.

He dreams of going on adventures, travelling the world, helping those in need, and rescuing a princess.

His problem?

Well. “Thanks” to a very old magic curse, there is only one princess left in the entire world: his twin sister. And while keeping her from falling off a tree when they were 8 years old could count as a rescue, Leonard doesn’t think it could make it into an epic story worth to be told in the future.

For years, he has tried to find an enchanted princess, either politely kissing frogs, or asking all the maids of the castle if they wore a dress made of stars under their aprons, to no avail.

But when Leonard was close to lose all hope, on his 18th birthday a witch appears before him: “Somewhere in this world, there is a hidden sleeping princess that needs your help. If I tell you her location, would you make a deal with me?”

Working on it, since I'm still trying different options to make it enjoyable to play.
For sure there will be an optional Easter Egg log about fairy tales for those who like to complete lists and different towns inspired by different fairy tales origins (Irish, Arabic, Russian...).
Most likely different endings and paths depending on your decisions.
Most likely quite a lot of objects to interact with.

All the portraits/sketches are provisional.

  • Leonard XII Golden:
The youngest prince of Corilea and twin brother of the last princess of the world, Lianne.

He is very exigent with himself and always strikes for perfection. He wants to be an ideal prince and has devoted most of his time to learn about geography, sword fencing, horse riding, poetry and even flower language.

Leo always envisioned his 18th birthday as the first stepping stone to start his journey, but with no more princesses left to rescue, what has he been training all his life for?

!!! I did not draw the hair, I put a random one to check the effect (the rest yep).
I still have to redraw the whole thing because I don't like the proportions xD But meanwhile here is the old version.

  • Eren Grasshorn:
A grumpy lumberjack with a magic object that will be the key of the story.

  • Irina:
A very laid-back woman that will join our protagonists with an agenda of her own.

I actually have a list of more 20 secondary characters ready... but I think the less info I give about them the better :p

  • Lianne I Golden (Lia):
The future queen of Corilea and twin sister of Leonard. She has been raised as a leader, and is aware that with her coming of age birthday, the world of kings and queens is starting to come to an end.

She has always encouraged his brother to live his life as he wants, and slightly envies the freedom he has to choose his path, but she is aware that Leonard is as chained down as she is, at least by his own mind.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
time for a new avatar :)
