So I have put around 100 hours into making my game. I've had many demo versions on both pc and android devices. And yet suddenly I can not create a distribution package! For the life of me I can not figure out why, and I have spent many hours trying to solve this...

I have a demo version of the game (pc) that is just as updated as the current project. Like I haven't changed a thing since this last demo, and yet I can't create a distribution package. During the creation process the bar seems to get as far as icon, then gives the error message, so I've tried fiddling with both icon and image files - nothing. I've even tried copying the project file and replacing the assets with those of the demo (hoping the error was a missing file, screwed name etc) to no avail.

I am getting extremely frustrated with this, so before I lose any more sleep worrying about the progress I feel like I've lost, can someone help me out here? Are you familiar with this issue and know some possible fixes? Is there a way to take my current demo and just turn that into a working project, saving the hassle of fixing the old one? Or would someone even be willing to take a look at my files and see why they aren't working (I assume a painstaking task, but I would love you forever, plus you'd be able to be my first outside play tester!)?

I will be eternally grateful to anyone who is able to help me out with this!!!

EDIT: Play tester found an obscure image I called that no longer existed in the files. Not sure how this changed from the working demo, but changing the called image to an existing one fixed the issue.

EDIT2: No changes to game at all, same problem again....

I've moved this thread to MV Deployment. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

Yes, if deployment fails it's usually an unreadable or non-existing file (unreadable for example because you used letters in the filename that are only allowed under windows, but not in an networking environment)

Ok so I was able to deploy a browser version, set it up on my website, all good!

Until today...

No changes were made to the game at all since the fix yesterday and the successful deployment. And yet it is failing to create a distribution package again... What the shnitzelberries is happening?

"failing to create distribution package", especially if it was working before, usually means that one of your resources (in this case probably one that has been added since the last deployment) has an illegal letter in its filename.

Windows allows a lot of letters in filenames that are absolutely forbidden as filenames in networking environments - things like spaces or non-latin letters. But RMMV is a networking based engine, so you have to make sure that all filenames conform to networking rules - if they don't, deployment will fail.

There are other reasons why it might fail, but if it was successfully deployed once then adding a resource with a wrong filename is the most likely cause.

Sorry for the late reply (12 hour shifts all week), but thanks for yours!

The problem is I didn't do anything since the last deployment.

Literally. All I did was play test it... So unless it didn't save, or I accidentally did something I am super confused still...

Looked through the files anyways, but I can't seem to find anything with an illegal filename. :/

Then my best guess would be that one of your files got damaged, and you'll have to check and find which one did...

Do you have any tips on how to do that then?

Alternatively, is there a way to observe which file the deployment stops at? Slow it down or something? The filenames flash by so quickly that trying to scrub to it with my screen cap software jumps right over it... The last file I can clearly make out is the fonts folder. As I replaced it multiple times with the fonts folder from a new project (no changes to fonts in my game) I believe this means the deployment is failing somewhere right after fonts. There is only one icon, so I think it is safe to assume it jumps past the icon folder too quickly to see, and fails somewhere in images. But I can't seem to find an error in the naming of any of the images, so either it is damaged like you suggested, or I am missing it. Seeing where the deployment fails would greatly speed up this troubleshooting.

EDIT: Here is a link to the game folder on google drive, if anyone who is more experienced/knowledgeable with RMMV and its files than me is willing, and awesome enough, to check it over for me... It would be greatly appreciated, and helpful in learning! :D
