Unable to open RPG Maker VX Ace on Windows 8.1

Hello, I just purchased RPG Maker VX Ace from ShinyLoot, and after downloading and installing it I am unable to open the program. It will come up to the screen that says "Loading" but will just quit and I get a notification from Soluto saying that RPG Maker VX Ace has crashed. I uninstalled and reinstalled both the main program and the run time files along with trying every possible option in the compatibility tab I am stuck. Anyone else have a problem running this on Windows 8.1 or at least are you running this on Windows 8.1? Any insight would be helpful!

So far there hasn't been any unsolved problem with running Ace on Windows 8.


Most reported problems could be solved either by setting compatibility mode to WinXP or were the result of wrong settings.


1) do you have an english windows, or are you using a different language? This question is mostly because problems can occur if the file path contains non-english file structures (that means letters or alphabets that are not part of the standard western coding)


2) Are you trying to install either the program or any of your game projects into a folder that has become restricted in Win8? For example, your new projects should not go into the program files folder, they need to be under "my documents".

I tried running with compatibility mode set to XP SP3 and Administrator, but it still crashed on me.

1) Nope, I'm using an English language version of Windows.

2) I used the default path that the installer chose, which put it in C:\Program Files (x86)\Enterbrain\RPGVXAce since I'm running a 64-bit version of Windows 8. I can't even get to the point where I can create a project, all I get is a small box that says "Loading". I can't even take a screen shot of it, tried a half-dozen times.

I just reinstalled it, running the installer as Admin but still no luck. I also installed it under the regular Program Files folder and made sure that the RTP files were installed in the Program Files folder as well.

I had also tried installing the demo version after I removed the paid version, and it had the same problem.

Did you run as administrator when you were INSTALLING it?


I can't even install Windows 8.1, let alone try to run anything on it
