I've downloaded the free trial of RPG Maker MV onto my MacBook Air, running OS X El Capitan version 10.11.1.

The website claims that RMMV should work on OS X, and it doesn't look like any other available programs are compatible with Macs.

In the zip folder I downloaded, there are two files in the folder "RPGMV_W" (the other folders just include game resources from what I can gather). One is "Setup.exe", which doesn't run because it's for a Windows installation, the other is called "Setup-1.bin".

RMMV (1) setup before.tiff

Opening Setup-1.bin creates "Setup-1.bin.cpgz".

RMMV (2) archiving.tiff

Opening Setup-1.bin.cpgz creates "Setup-1 2.bin"...

RMMV (3) 2 . bin.tiff

Opening Setup-1 2.bin creates "Setup-1 2.bin.cpgz"...

RMMV (4) archiving 2.tiff

which then creates "Setup-1 2 2.bin" and so on!

RMMV (5) 2 bin cpgz.tiff

This seems like an endless loop and I don't seem be get any closer to installing RMMV.

Is it possible to get this trial working for Mac? Do I have to buy the full product for it to work? Should I wait for a official "Mac version" to come out? Should I buy it on Steam?

Thank you in advance for your help.

On Mac OSX, only the steam version of RMMV works. They're currently working on a standalone version for Mac, but until then, no trial available for Mac.  :(

You can either run the trial through a virtual machine or bootcamp windows into your Mac.

MV really is worth the money though so if you do get it, you can access the Steam version and get it up and working!

Thanks guys, what a bummer that it's not available yet :(

I do have Windows computers in my house, so I might just try running the trial on those, and if I like it and decide I really do want to make something, I'll probably buy it on Steam on my Mac.

Again, thanks for your help, kennysaurs and timothy-henri!

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! Kind of gives a very different feel. :LZSexcite:
To whom ever person or persons who re-did the DS/DS+ asset packs for MV (as in, they are all 48x48, and not just x2 the pixel scale) .... THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!! XwwwwX
