Unexpected File Format!?

Sooooo I tried opening a game file and an error message saying "Unexpected File Format" popped up. The game file was working just fine not 3 hours ago. This is the second game that's happened with, none of which were big projects but I wish I knew what was happening or how to fix it before it happens to a big game project.

What is the file extension of the file you are opening?

If it is .rvproj2, then maybe it is corrupted.

If it is not, then find the .rvproj2 and then try to open it.

Another solution is to enter the RPGMVXA, click "Open" and then select your Game.rvproj2

That happened to me when lights went out while RM project was opened.

Firstly - try replacing RPGVXAce Project (.rvproj2) file with a new one

If that will not work, some data could be corrupted ~ I hope you have some backups?

Basically that error means that one or more files got corrupted, usually by Windows crashing or being shutdown before the HDD-cache could be transferred to the magnetic disc.


Search for that error message - there are already several topic explaining how to try to save your data and to check how much is really lost.


But to prevent that error, you need to check why your windows crashes or shuts down too fast - that error is NOT caused by the RPG-Maker, but by something else.

I suggest you start a new thread with your problem and see if anyone can come up with a solution for your particular issue. Please give as much detail as you can, include exactly what you have done so far and the precise results of doing so - e.g. an error message, a blank screen, or whatever.
