Do you mean unique in the sense that each character is clearly different to all other characters in your game, or do you mean unique in the sense that this is an unusual (hard to be unique) character to have in an RPG?

We know that you want to create unique characters, but my question was what type of unique character.  Do you mean

1) Characters which are unique because each one is different from all other characters in your game - it might be because of personality, class, type of skills or some other aspect.

or

2) Characters which are unique in the sense that they are unusual characters to have in an RPG game.  For example, in one of my games I had a dwarf who was an artist.  This is, to say the least, an unusual thing for a dwarf to be, as they are normally axe wielding miners or craftsmen.

Good.  Now we've got that clarified we can go ahead.

1) Unique in terms of skill - you have to have a good range of skills and the best way to do this without a lot of duplication is to make your characters have different types of skill.  If they all have the same, or very similar, or with a lot of overlap, that is neither interesting for the player, nor will it help players build up strategies.  So I would say you need a lot of difference there.

2) Unique in terms of Class more or less follows on from that.  It is possible to have parties with everyone of one class (I've seen parties made up entirely of mages, for example) but that is more difficult to create in a balanced and interesting way.

3)  There can be similarities in the background of the characters, but it is nice if they have varied back stories, as it allows for more variety in how they view the world, the adventure/quest/whatever that is the plot of your game and so on.

4) Differences in personality.  I think this is important if you do not want your dialogues to be boring.

5) Differences in hopes/dreams/ambitions/fears/etc This provides a lot of content for your story, for the interactions between your characters.

Don't forget, aspiring writers: Personality isn't what your characters do, it is WHY they do it.
Hello! I would like to know if there are any pluggings or any way to customize how battles look?
I was thinking that when you start the battle for it to appear the eyes of your characters and opponents sorta like Ace Attorney.
Sadly I don't know how that would be possible so I would be needing help! If you can help me in any way I would really apreciate it!
