OH BOY AN UNPOPULAR OPINIONS THREAD GET YOUR SALT SHAKERS READY

- Fanservice just needs to just stop. A little bit of it here and there is fine, but unless you're trying to poke fun at the idea of cute anime girls in skin-tight "armor", it's really not necessary.
you're just giving creepy dudes more jack off fuel than they already have.
- Speaking of fanservice, I actually really like Camilla from Fire Emblem Fates. Her writing is awful (it basically boils down to "mom", "Corrin", and "yandere"), but at the same time, she's one of those guilty pleasure characters.
- And also what is up with yanderes and tsunderes having such a large fanbase? To be honest, the only well-written tsundere I can think of is Natsuki from Doki Doki Literature Club, as tropey as she can be.
- I can't stand Sword Art Online. To be fair, I haven't watched the anime or read the manga, so I have no room to talk, but from what little I do know, it just seems to fall flat on its face. First, the whole "being trapped in an MMO" concept was pretty cool, but then everybody turned it into a trend and now I'm like. Just stop. Second, aren't there, like, three or four different games that the characters get themselves stuck in? Maybe they explain why, but it doesn't really make sense to me. If you were to get trapped in an MMO and threatened that if you die in the game, you die in real life unless you beat the final boss, wouldn't you be like "Yeah, I'm done with MMOs for a while"? And third, Kirito just kinda comes off as an overpowered playboy to me, kinda like Makoto from School Days, except more overpowered and I guess a little more of a decent human being?

I'll see your salt and raise you pepper.

Yes, please! I honestly get tired of it when it is so shoved in my face. I actually stopped playing Hyperdimesion Neptuna over it (well that and the battle system was awful and the characters had the combined IQ of a light bulb too).

Nah, i think we need to be demanding more fanservice in games that dont have it in it. Theres a real unpopular opinion. By that same line of logic, since i dont like the PV games assets games made using them shouldnt be made, damn what other people like right.

(Did damn just auto correct to dayum?)

Here's one:

Characters in video games (and books) need to stop having a combined IQ of a turnip. I don't care if you think your plot needs the characters to act stupid, because if that is honestly the case, then you need to redo your plot or come up with a better plot then.

I actually don't like cake either really. Brownies or Ice Cream is better 99% of the time.

The one exception is a chocolate pudding cake. It is actually super dense and moist and delicious.

@Touchfuzzy that sounds way too rich for me, LOL. I feel like I wouldn't be able to eat too much of that.

You're all wrong. The only decent desert is a real Christmas Pudding, preferably with brandy butter (which might, or might not, be called 'hard sauce' in US English).

In the Southeastern U.S. at least it is generally called brandy butter among the small minority of people who would actually know what you are even talking about (generally octogenarians at this point, and the rare millennial who learned to cook from his grandma :D) Though personally I find real Christmas Pudding disgusting.

Another dessert (also, is proper spelling an unpopular trend or are y'all all talking about deserting people in the wilderness but leaving pies and puddings as conciliatory survival rations?) related one "American" butter cream is much tastier than "proper" butter cream is...of course the American variant is also pretty much the most unhealthy cake topping one can make, as we take the butter part far too literally. There, now everyone should be upset.

Oh, and a game related one. Standardized player character voice acting is the worst thing to ever happen to the video game medium. It bloats data unnecessarily, costs a significant chunk of the budget that could have gone to more important aspects such as story cohesion and gameplay and severely limits the scope of genres like rpgs by hampering the developer's ability to allow alternate responses to quest stimuli (each branching path costs more VA money).

I don't hate voice acting everywhere it appears in the medium, but there are several games out there (such as Deus Ex, Fallout, Mass Effect) where requiring every character to have a voice over (particularly the protagonist) actively limits and reduces more than it adds to the game.

So I've just gotten a ps4, and so have developed some more unpopular opinions on the modern games industry.
-45gb is too big for a game, you don't need your meshes and textures to be THAT high res. Nobody can even afford a 4k tv yet and the consoles can't handle it anyway.
-Having a disc exist just to install the game which is then downloaded to the hard drive is a terrible concept. I buy a disc to play a game off of a disc. If I wanted a digital copy of a game, I'd buy a digital copy of the game!
-$80 cad before tax is completely absurd, and microtransactions on top of that is a slap in the face. Games don't need to be that expensive to make.
-Games are too big. Seriously, Doom on the PS4 with all of the trophies, patches, installation files, etc. is 68gb. That's 15% of my systems hard drive! There's this concept that exists in the software sphere development sphere called optimization. Basically its when you actually try to get the best level of quality out of the smallest file size balance that you can. I feel like the games industry needs to start implementing this concept. Like, I'll survive with a lower resolution textures, meshes and slightly more compressed audio if you're shaving 10-50mb off of the download for each file that's been optimized.

.
That reminds me, I got one more:

4k for games is going to be a flop. No one needs THAT high a resolution, and game companies can't afford to make art that high res in the current market unless they can somehow get away with doubling the price of games ($120 for an AAA game anyone?).

Plus, I really hate how tiny text is on those high of resolutions. Haven't these people heard of eye strain? I'd really rather not get a headache from trying to play a game for longer than 30 minutes because someone had to cram it into a really high resolution which in return made the text too small to read, or the characters too small to make out, or both.

I would actually argue that 4k for gaming is already a flop. It's not like moving up to HD back in the day when it made sense. 4k is just an arbitrary waste of an upgrade. Speaking of high res, if we stopped trying to push 4k, we wouldn't have such hd textures, which would result in smaller file sizes which would result in games not taking upwards of 50 $%&@ing gb of my 500gb hard drive.

The way I see it, if we were to just stick with regular hd, we wouldn't have a lot of the bs in the industry right now.

....I don't like fake beauty marks....:kaoswt2: Those really bother me especially on fake characters. Zero suit Samus was given one in the second Smash she appeared in for who knows why. It's like seeing a white piece of paper and there is that one discolored spot you can't stop looking at it.

I also prefer listening to Japanese voice acting more so than English. I won't watch dub anime anymore for example. I guess I just prefer watching stuff in their original language for the most part. (French, Spanish, whatever the original is) There are a bunch of anime that are really butchered by dubs with cut out scenes and edited images. (In Pokemon they photoshopped Onigiri into a sandwich and had Team Rocket call their Onigiri a donut for example) :kaoswt:

Well, I don't watch anime since I can't stand it, but I generally agree that entertainment is at its best when in its original language since oftentimes translations can lose some of the subtleties of the original. Though in a lot of cases its just a matter of lower quality. For example the english voice acting in Suikoden Tierkreis is an abomination that should be killed with fire, so my version of the game has been patched with the japanese dub so that my ears don't bleed.
Also the stupid edits that the english showrunners made to pokemon back in the day were absolutely absurd, although I actually prefer the voices in the english dub since they're a bit cheezier and that just fits the earlier seasons of Pokemon better imho.

Most people prefer subs because if the voice acting is bad in a language they don't know, they would never know the difference.

(I still prefer subs to dubs in a lot of cases, but there are good dubs, and I'm under no illusion that JP voice acting is universally better, I just don't know the proper intonation and cadence of the language, so awkward acting is invisible to me).

Interesting analysis but wouldnt the problem have more to do with translation losses and the animation itself being made to match the japanese voices?

Dubs are kind of like a square peg for a round hole its more of a make it work situation. I think more of the problem comes from the restrictions of making english fit where japanese was.

Take the same line in english or japanese and the length of time will often be different so what can you do? Chop off frames or drag out words or add/remove words.

Apply this to every line of every character and youve got a noticible problem. Subs dont just seem better because we dont understand the language they ARE better because they dont have to play by extra rules that add static and other nonsense that ruins good shows.

A great ninja once said.. believe it believe it believe it believe it hokage believe it.
