While letting friends play test my game, we noticed that when starting a new game the player already had the key items.

In other save files the player had obtained these key items normally through the game. I'm wondering if this is the reason why when making a new game the player already has the key items. If this is the case then how would I go about fixing this? If not, what is causing this?

No, and it doesn't happen that way - all games and their saves are independent.

What probably happened is that you added a plugin for item functions, forgot to configure it correctly and didn't read about some setting that automatically gives items by plugin on new game.

Please check your plugins, and ALWAYS make sure they are configured correctly. a good part of the problems asked around here is because people believe they can copy and forget plugins, but it doesn't work that way, they need configuration in most cases.

I'm using RPG Maker MV.

The plugins I'm using are that are not already included with the default rpg maker file are:

  • Terrax Lighting
  • TYR_FollowerControl
  • A plugin for no mouse movement
  • A plugin I created for a custom puzzle room (does not touch player items)

I don't have nor have I added any other plugins that change functionality for items.

Would any of the default plugins create the problem I mentioned?

Possibly - I don't know every plugin.

You need to remember, we are not talking about a bug here - we are talking about a plugin that was intentionally written to have the option to include items at new game because some players want that, and you only got surprised because you wanted the same plugin for another item option and forgot to switch off the new item option.

That is why I mentioned that you need to check in every option of every plugin you have - I know that yanfly has item scripts with a lot of options, and I know that in once case the originally supplied plugin at launch had a bug and needed to be replaced with a newer version.

Thank you again for your quick response!

I checked the file again with my friend, and it turns out that the lighting plugin we put in was producing unwanted behavior.

When the player died and tried to create a new game right afterwards some of the lighting effects remained on the player.

Thank you for help!
