I have a game set close to New York City in present day time. While I was working on my game I was thinking it would be kind of cool to integrate emojis as they are a big part of American culture right now. I looked up the legality and it seems like is it okay to use emojis if they can be licensed for reuse, so I did find a pretty big set of emojis that could be reused with attribution.

While it does seem like a really trendy thing to integrate right now, I'm worried it will kind of come off as corny and put people off. My idea was to use the emojis as markers for NPC's that can be talked with, to represent currency and other in game items, and use when characters interact with each other via social media in the game. Do you think something like this would be off putting?

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
