Hey fellow game makers! I was just curious if it were possible to use multiple iconsets and if so how does one go about doing so? Any help would be greatly appreciated

In MV you need to edit the iconsets to make them into a single file. MV only reads a single file for the icons. However, you can make that file as big as you want, you just need to follow the format (there's a set number of icon per row, but you can add an unlimited amount of rows).

No. You edit the default iconset, increase its length only by the appropriate amount (a multiple of 32), and copy/paste the icons from the other iconset in.

Or you create a plugin for it.

@Poryg Simpler to just combine them. Even if you could support it with a plugin, you couldn't switch between iconsets in the database. If you're the kind to set almost everything directly into the code (like I do, and like you do too I presume), then it would work perfectly.

I'm kind of new to the whole editing RTP by new.. I mean I don't know how to lol. How would I go about doing that?

That sounds interesting. Do you know any?

@Shaz you are constantly always saving bro. I really appreciate it

project > img > system > IconSet

Open the icon set in an image editing software (Photoshop/GIMP) and add the new icons below the current ones. It might help to overlay a grid.

Basically this is what I did for some of my own game functions. Not sure about plugins (and haven't tried either) but editing the defaults really is the easiest way to do it here. As for the multiples trick I think I'll give it a whirl as there are some parts of the item descriptions in what I have that could use a better set of icons than is provided by MV (and the icons from Ace will probably do the trick for me once I upscale and append).

Aside from that, if this helps you out enough to where it's non-issue material you can use the report function to let the mods know when you're ready to wrap this up.

EDIT: And that was a lot of icons, but it is officially confirmed that it works.

Yanfly has the resized VX Ace icons for use in MV here:

For simplicity and time constraint I went ahead and did it manually to start things off. That being said, the question is not necessarily about sources of icon sets as it is about implementation so I wouldn't go too far off topic.

I'm going to append the Yanfly version now and report back.

EDIT: That did the trick. For the record you should technically have registered versions of both Ace and MV if you're intent on any kind of commercial endeavor, and in general if you want to get that far down.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
