Note tags are the bane of my existence with this program right now, and cannot get them to work...

Case in point, I have a Gunner (class) named Callum (Actor). His weapon set will include pistols, rifles and shotguns. Now, two of these are naturally two-handed (exceptions include sawn-off shotguns, but they still cannot be dual wielded) while pistols are dual-wieldable.

Now, installing victor's dual wield plugin and activating it should naturally stop pistols and rifles from being dual-wieldable at the same time. However, upon putting the "<two handed weapon>" tag onto the rifle (without any quotes) does not actually DO anything; same goes for shotguns. If I set the class to dual wield, he is suddenly able to dual wield rifles and shotguns (which should not be possible on either weapon) and even alongside pistols such that pistol + rifle is possible.

Am I doing something wrong with these note tags? Displayed below is what I'm doing on a rifle.

Do you have the Victor Engine - Basic Module installed, and is it installed above the Dual Wield plugin in your plugin manager? If so, can we see a screenshot of your plugin manager?

In the engine, dual wield makes you able to wield two weapons, and it is only possible with the dual wield trait on the class or actor. However, it will not stop you from wielding any two weapons you wish, unless you have the first weapon seal the shield slot (as dual wielding uses up the shield slot).

Also most notetags must be precisely as it is in the help file, including capitalization. Try looking at the help file for the dual wield plug-in and then copy/paste the notetag it uses.

I've moved this thread to Plug-In Support. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

Thanks for that move; new here so didn't notice the specialized forum section.

Anyway, yes I do copy/paste (otherwise I'm prone to errors) notetags and it still has no effects. Just did this with the <main hand weapon> notetag.

OK, first you need to know that notetags by themselves have absolutely no function.
However, a plugin can check the notebox for any entry and change things if it identifies something it's looking for.

So if a notetag doesn't do what it is intended for, either the plugin that is looking for the notetag is not installed correctly or the notetag isn't used like the plugin expects.

If you had given links to the websites of the plugins, we could have checked if you configured them correctly - that you need to do yourself.
However, it might be that the plugins aren't working because they are not compatible with the core version of your project. Please go into the project folders, open the rpg_core.js file in the js folder with a text editor and check its title line for the version number. no number means 1.0.0.
then tell us which version it is for your project.

Now that you mention it, I cannot actually open .js files as they create the below error

Said website is the VE site at https://victorenginescripts.wordpress.com/rpg-maker-mv/, with the most up-to-date versions I used displayed on that page.

no one can open javascript files by doubleclicking them, because doubleclick tries to execute them.
That is why I said open them with a text editor...

Either start the text editor and then use the open command in its menu to open the javascript file, or right-click the js file and then select "open with" instead of the regular open, choosing your text editor after that.

Ok, it's v1.5.1 which I assume is the most up-to-date copy.

EDIT: Only just noticed you mentioned the text editor. Sorry about that
