Valkyrie: Sacred Feathers S is a fully-featured twin-stick shooter, presented in a mode7 style, with some graphical inspiration from 80s/90s SuperScaler games:

Our first spinoff of Nina Aquila: Legal Eagle, this will be a stand-alone game based upon our prototype battle system for a future "Nina Aquila: Legal Eagle, Chapter IV".

Players move with the left stick and fire with the right. You can perform short dashes (during which you're invulnerable) and there are two power-ups, a smart-bomb and a weapon power-up. The player has 3 lives, represented by the feathers. There are also 3 enemies and a boss with their own state flow logic, that play VFX/SFX for things like spawning, shooting, etc.

The stand-alone version of the game will be focused on action, rather than NALE's heavy focus on narrative. Players will play to try and achieve a high score, with ever-increasing difficulty, in classic 80s single-screen arcade-game style.

What has taken much of the time is what you CAN'T see here. The system is totally configurable, so it's easy to make more enemy types, script different scenarios, add more power-ups; everything is extensible. It also has budgets for performance and fail-safes if it ever tries to exceed them.

This required a fair bit of custom scripting and eventing, but was built on top of various plugins - we want to call out those by @bblizzard, @Galv, @Iavra and Sanshiro in particular.

Thanks everyone! We'll post updates here as-we-go, and if you want to see more frequent, smaller updates, feel free to follow us over on Twitter!

Thanks for the review, mods!

I'm thinking about editing this into a webgame that could be played on itch.

Now that we're planning to release this, could we have thread moved to the "in-development" folder?

Not sure which specific mod I should message, but hopefully someone will see this with the necessary superpowers.

Just posting to say that a minor update went out to fix a couple of launch bugs.

If you see any further ones, please let me know!

Updated the game this evening to change the cadence of the gameplay.

We found that high-scoring players were having to play the game for ages, when it was designed more to be a short-burst type-of-game (like a classic arcade game).

We've removed the waves and now ramp up the difficulty faster, but also, the scoring ramps up too, meaning you get higher scores over shorter sessions. This should mean the game is more inviting as a quick-burst, play-die-repeat sort of experience.

Let us know how you get on!

I made a score of 168.399, but it seems you play on 1 map, not sure
if there are more maps or different looks or how long it takes to clear
the stage?
however, I notice 2 things.

1) lantern and mailbox is walkable, rather blocking the player or
projectiles from stopping it.

2) I cornered some enemies (bulls specifically) and they dont move,
shoot or dash the 2nd time I encounter them, making it an easy kill.

same thing happend with some bats, but worked after wards normally.
but it is a fun game. nicely done though.

Thanks! The mailbox etc. is intentional; it's a bit weird but I found when they blocked things, it didn't feel good for the player - but having some "tall" objects in the arena improves the sense of parallax for the visuals.

At present it's just the one stage; it's designed to be like a classic arcade game, like Space Invaders or Defender, like a single-screen arcade game. If we use this type of gameplay in future Nina Aquila content it'll be more varied.

The thing about cornering the bulls is interesting. What was going on? There might be some kind of bug. That being said, if you're continuously shooting them I think they won't attack; the danger is more that others might attack you while you're doing this. I do have concerns about this enemy though so please let me know if you have any more information about what was going on.

I was on a distance, most bats and ghost keep shooting (even outside the map),
the bull on the edge and visible didn't make them move.

blocking the player by obstacles make the game harder, but you can ofcource
add that to a higher difficulty?

I did the middle mode of difficulty, but it is nicely done, I can play around
some more to see why it happend, but I cannot tell for certain though.

We made a bunch of fixes and launched on Newgrounds!

If anyone wants to give that a try, please do - we could do with some more votes to get us out of the "in judgement" state.

Evening humans! How goes the game make?
The anime characters we saw 20 years ago,
still have the same age when we see them now.
Somehow it's strange but also beautiful.
It's like no matter how much we change,
there's certain part of ourselves we can reconnect to when we see them again.
Took a long, long time, way longer than it should to be honest...but I've finally finished the big content update to my demo!
Lots of not good things happening IRL but I'm not gonna let this day end like this. Quote time:

So, keep going, lads. Whatever you do keep going. Until next time.

It's a Spanish devlog don't get scared!. (please)
